SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 782,306, dated February 14, 1905.

Be it known that I, MAX H. WOLFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of NewYork, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyeglasses, of which the following is a specification, such as will enablethose skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and Vuse the same.
This invention relates .to eyeglasses, and particularly to means for securing the nosespring and the nose-clamps thereto; and the object of the invention is to provide improved means whereby the nose spring and noseclamps of an ordinary pair of eyeglasses may be easily and conveniently secured in place in suoli a manner that they will not work loose or accidentally come off. l
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the Views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View ofa pair of eyeglasses provided with my improvement; Fig. 2, a side View of one of the clamps employed; and Fig. 3, a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, Figs. 2 and 3 being on an enlarged scale. l l
In the drawings forming part of this speciication I have yshown at a two clips similar to those usually employed for connecting the nose-spring and nose-clamps with a pair of eyeglasses, the glasses being shown at I) in Fig. 1. The clips e are each provided with a short stud e2, having a cylindrical head a3, and the headk as is cut transversely of one side thereof, the front side, as shown in the drawings, to form two transverse recesses which extend almost across said head and by means -of which two corresponding iexible plates e5 are formed, which are free at one edge. The
nose-clamps b2 (shown in the drawings) are provided with spring-arms b3, and in practice the ends c2 of the nose-spring c are placed in the inner recesses in the heads e3 of the stud a2, while the arms b3 of the nose-clamps b2 are placed in the outer recesses of the heads a3, and screws d are passed inwardly through said heads inline with the axis thereof. The plates es, which separate the recesses a4, are so thin that the screws d clamp said plates securely together and to the varms b3 of the clamps b2 and to the ends of the spring c. and the screws CZ pass through the arms b3 of the clamps b2 and through the ends of the spring c, and this Iforms a perfectly secure connection for the nose-clamps b2 and for the spring c. When the spring and clamps have once been secured in position in this manner, they will not work off or come ofi' and will not become loose, and
,said spring and clamps cannot turn on the `thus be connected` with the heads a3 of the studs e2.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A pair of eyeglass-clips, said clips being provided with s'tuds having solid heads in line with the axis of the studs and transverse parallel recesses cut in one side of said heads at right angles to said axis so as to form transverse flexible plates free at one edge, said recesses being adapted to receive the ends of the nose-spring and the ends of the attaching members of the nose-clips, and means for securing the ends of thenose-spring and the ends of the attaching members of the nose-clips in position in said recesses consisting of screws passed inwardly through said plates, the ends of the nose-spring and the ends of the attaching members of the nose-clips and the recesses in which they are placed and into the inner end portions of said heads, substantially as shown and described.
