Description

@nimh tstrsctmt ff'if,
i-:UeH B. RQRKE, or CALIFORNIA, MISSOURI.
Letters Patent No. 77,919, elated May 12, 1368; antedated April 29, 1868.
IMPROVED MOP-WRINGJ'IRl K To ALL WHoM ir MAY ooNoERN:
`Be' it known thatI, UGII B. Reime, ofGalifornia, in the countylot Monitea, and State of Missouri,-
have invented a new :and useful Improvement'inMopfWringers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a .full und clear description thereof,,referenceI being hold to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
v i This invention relates to an arrangement ot' two rollers across the top of a common water-bucket, the beer ings. ot the seid rollers being in metallic earpieces,uottached temporerily to the sides of the bucket by means of slet-screws. A lever, provided with a foot-piece, is so combined with therollers as to draw them; together in such ai manner as'to effect the wringing' operation, and a spring is also provided for the purposeof' pushing vthe `rollers apart when the lever is released, -so as to allow the moptobe passed down into the p'ail between them.
To enable those skilled in tho art to make and use my improved mop-wringer, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Eigure 1, of the drawings, is a-perspective 'view of one of the improved mop-wrin'gers attached to a pail or bucket."
Figui-e2 is a plain of the same; and v Figure Slis a perspective view of the inside ofgone of the ears. l
The eerpieces A are constructed so' as to' conform to the top edge ofthe pail A', and are secured thereto by means of the lugs ci, which cxtenddown a short distahcey inside of' the. pail, and by the set-screw al, which may be set up tightly to the outside of the, pail. i. The roller B has its bearings fixed at one side-of the earpieces, while thc rails a?, on top of said pieces, form slots for the bearings'of thejournalsof the roller B', thus allowing' the said roller-to .be drawn to one side or the other. The ends of the journals b of roller Bf extend outside of the enr-pieces far enough to bc caught hold of by the forked ends of the bent lever C. This bent lever isV pivoted to Vthe bottom ends offthe ear-pieces'at c, and, extending around to one'iside ofthe pail, isthere` provided with a foot-piece, on which the operators foot is to be placed and pressed when the mop is to be wrung out. A sprihg, D, at each of tthe car-pieces, is arranged to throw the roller B hack fromthe other when `not in use. Either or both of the rollers B Bmay beeorrugeted or smooth, but it will probably be 'preferable to Y use one corrlignted andthe other smooth.
The wringer being attached to the pail or biieket as described and set forth, is to be,used aus follows: The mop is to be thrustinto the bucket between the rollers B B', and then the foot placed upon the footpiecc c', ond slightly presseddown. This action will draw the roller -Bnptightly to the mop, which will then be confined between the two rollers, and may then he drown up out of the bucket, :ind by this simple action wrong quite'dry. The car-pieces, springs, and lever ore to be made of metal, but the rollers may be made of wood.
Having described my invention, what I claim is The rollers B B, either with or without eorrugations, tbc ear-pieces A, and lever C, when combined and arranged as described and set forth. 4
