SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 778,278, dated December 27, 1904- Application filed March 15, 1904. Serial No. 198,202.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRITZ SOHEFFER, J r., a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Remscheid-Haddenbach, in the Province of the Rhine, Kingdom of Prussia, Germany,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Wrenches, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a pipe wrench IO whereby pipes and similar objects can be firmly gripped; and the object of my invention is to provide a wrench of this kind which is simple in construction and adapted to securely hold the objects which are placed be- 5 tween the jaws of the wrench against rotation.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, and in which similar reference-letters refer to similar parts in the various figures, Figure 1 is a side view of the new pipe-wrench, showing the jaws closed. Fig. 2 is a similar view, the jaws being shown opened. Fig. 3 is a rear end view of the new pipe-wrench.
The jaw (designated by the reference-letter 5 0) is formed at the inner end of the lever 0 and is stationary. Cooperating with the jaw c the angularly-shapedjaw a is provided, which jaw is pivotally connected at Z) with a link (Z, which link is pivoted at it to the first jaw 0,

To the jaw a there is pivoted at e an arm g, the other end of which link is secured to the lever f of the pipewrench. The inner faces of the jaws 0 and a are corrugated, as shownatla and z, in aknown manner in order to more securely grip and hold the objects placed between the jaws.
The operation of the pipe-wrench will be readily understood from the drawings. When the lever f is moved toward the lever 0, the toggle-lever a (Z is swung, by means of the link g, around the pivot 7b, whereby the relative position of the pivot b with respect to pivot 70 is shifted in such a way as to cause the jaw a to approach the stationary jaw c, as shown in Fig. 1. Any object placed between the jaws is therefore firmly gripped and securely held against rotation.
-What I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is In a pipe-wrench the combination with a stationary jaw, of an angularly-shaped movable jaw, forming one member of a togglelever, the other member of said lever being pivotally connected with the stationary jaw and an arm connecting the movable jaw with one lever of the wrench.
