Be it lmoxvn that I, JAMES WnATHEns, of Greensburg, in the county of Decatur, and in the State of Indiana,A have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thimble-Skein; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings andthe letters of reference marked thereon.
In thea-nnexed drawings,'making a part of this specification, A represents an ordinary wagon or carriageaxle, made inthe usual way, and of any suitable material; and B represents a thimble-skeinmade of suitable material, and so as to t closely overl the tapering eud'or arm of the axle A.
The thimhlo B is made of one piece of metal, and is provided with the usual collar z for the box D to rest against, and with a. depending ange or lip, 72, which 'is provided with ln suitable hole for the rod g to pass through. r
The rod g is secured at one end to the under side-of the axle A by means of the boltf,`\vhich secures the hounds to said axle.
Said rod y extends along parallel with the axle, and passes through the hole in the ange la, and is then screwed up by means of a small nut for that purpose. `The thimble B is thus firmly a'nd securely held in place by mens of the rod g, with its nut and lthe flange h, and'without the trouble and disadvantages of the-usual rod,l which passes through under the thimble and out at the'end of the arm of the axle. I am thus enabled to make a square hole or slot through the outer end of the thimble'B,"in which to insert an ordinary linchpin, C,
for the purpose of holding the Wheel or box D thereof in place.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as inew, and desire to secure by Letters vPatent, is- The thmble B and skein E, cast of one piece, the former provided with a flange, L, und secured to the axle A by means of the boltf and rod g, all combined, arranged, and used lsubstantially as specified.
