LAM]? BURNER.
APPLICATION PILBD JUNE 10. 1904.
N0 MODEL.
I INVENTOR Wallz'azn flLHeelas Z4 ll WITNESSES I TTOHA'EVS UNITED STATES Patented December 13, 190%.
PATENT OEEICE.
LAMP-BURNER SPECIFIQATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 777,630, dated December 13, 1904.
Application filed June 10, 1904-. Serial No. 211,914. (11'0 model.)
To (0 whom zit may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. HEELAs, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Burners, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to lamp-burners; and the object thereof is to provide an ordinary lamp-burner with a flame-cone, made of glass or similarmaterial, by which the light is permitted to pass through said cone and to illuminate the parts of the burner thereunder and by which the light of the flame at the top of the wick-tube is also permitted to pass out through the flame-cone, the flame-cone being also adapted to serve as a refractor and refiector.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a central vertical section of a lamp burner provided with my improved flame-cone, and Fig. 2 a plan view thereof.
In the drawings forming part of this invention I have shown an ordinary fiat-wick lamp-burner provided with the usual wiektube a and a cone-plate Z), through which the upper end of the wick-tube passes. The coneplate 6 in the form of construction shown is provided with an annular raised portion If, outside of which said plate is provided with fine perforations, as shown at 6 and that portion of said plate adjacent to the top of the wick-tube is also perforated, as shown at 6". The lamp-burner in the form of construction shown is provided with a wick-raiser shaft or spindle c and with the chimney-holders 0 all these parts being of the usual construction.
In the practice of my invention I provide a flame-cone d, which is preferably composed of glass, but which may be composed of porcelain or similar earthy material. The flamecone (Z is provided with the usual flame-slot (Z2, and the base is provided with an annular flange or rim d, and the annular raised portion Z2 of the plate 7) is provided. with pivoted spring-catches e, which are adapted to be turned so as to overlap the flange or rim d" of the flame-cone and hold it in place, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and which may also be turned in order to permit of the removal of said cone and the cleaning of the plate 7) and for other purposes.
My invention in no way relates to the form or construction of the burner or to the main parts thereof, and my improved flame-cone may be applied to lamp-burners of any kind or class. The cone (Z may be made of any suitable earthy material which will permit of the passage of light therethrough and also of the reflection, diifusion, and refraction of light.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A lamp-burner, the cone-plate of which provided with an annular raised portion and perforated both inside and outside of said portion, a flame-cone made of glass and prm'ided with a base-rim which fits within the inner raised portion of the cone-plate, and catches pivoted to said inner raised portion of the cone-plate and adapted to be turned so as to overlap the rim of the flam.e-cone, substan.
tially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 9th. day of June, 1904.
WILLIAM A. HEELAS.
