PATENT OFFICE.
ROLLER-SUPPORT FOR USE IN IVIILL S, 81.0..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 777,584, dated December 13, 1904:. Application filed June 18, 1904. Serial No- 213,146. (No model.)
To It 1071 0727, it may concern:
Be it, known that I, I'VILLIAM BARTLOW, a citizen of the United States, residing at M uncy, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roller-Supports for use in Mills, &c.; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and. use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in roller-simports for sawmills and for other purposes; and the object of the invention is to produce a device of this character whereby heavy objects of any kind may be conveniently handled, and comprises a standard mounted upon antifriction-wheels and adapted to travel upon tracks and carrying rollers across which the objects to be handled may rest and be conveniently moved in one direction or the other.
The invention consists, further, in various details of construction and in combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved roller-support for heavy objects, show ing a log positioned upon one of the antifrictionrollers; and Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view through the device.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates crosspieces forming the base of the apparatus, which has vertically-disposed posts A and guide-rails B, and mounted upon said crosspieces A is a track C, having a groove U, in which wheels I), journaled in the legs E of the supporting-fra1ne'F, are adapted to travel, and flanges H rise upon either side of the track and between which said legs are confined,
serving to guide the legs as the supportingframe moves backward and forward upon said track. In the drawings three supporting legs are shown, and projecting from the central of said legs are brackets K, each carrying an antil'riction'wheel N, mounted upon a vertical axis and adapted. to contact with the inner faces of the rails B, whereby the frame is supported in an upright position. In the upper ends of the posts are journaled the horizontally-disposed rollers M, upon which a log or other article to be handled is adapted to rest, and projecting from the opposite faces of the posts are the flanges O, which are provided as guards to the rollers and serve to clear the same of any foreign matter which might adhere to said rollers.
By the provision of the apparatus shown and described it will be observed that a convenient apparatus is provided for use in sawmills or for any other purpose where heavy objects are to be handled, as the same may be placed upon the rollers and the supportingframe moved backward and forward, and by balancing the object being carried the same may be swung in different directions.
While I have shown a particular detailed construction of apparatus illustrating my invention, it will be understood that I may vary the construction of the same, if desired, as to details without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A movable roller-supporting apparatus comprising a roller-supporting frame, antifriction-wheels journaled in said frame, a track in which said wheels are guided, rollers mounted in said frame, and means for holding the frame in an upright position, as set forth.
2. A roller-supporting apparatus comprising a movable frame, wheels mounted upon said frame, a grooved track in which said wheels travel, horizontally-journaled rollers carried by said frame, brackets projecting from the opposite sides of the frame, and horizontally-rotatable antifriction-wheels mounted upon said brackets, vertical guide-rails upon said brackets, and vertical guide-rails on opposite sides of the frame and against which said antifriction-wheels are adapted to 5 contact, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
hi WILLIAM X BARTLOW.
