SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 776,502, dated December 6, 1904.

The result is thesame in either case. The parallel line is quickly and accurately set by a single operation through the medium of the controller-plate C. The true alinement of the plate P being thus established, it is a com paratively simple matter to secure the plate P in position by means of the ordinary clamps a a c, the end gage G having first been set to determine the position of the plate longitudinally upon the block.
The end gage Gr is preferably secured directly to a second controller-plate C, mounted on the under side of the block B, the body of the gage projecting through the longitudinal slot b3 and being provided with the beveled edge g for engagement with the plate. This second controller-plate C/ may be operated by a pinion and rack similar to the first-named controller-plate C or by any other mechanical expedient, and it is also locked automatically in position by a spring-pawl or equivalent.
W hat wc claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi
l. The combination with a printers plateblock, of a plurality of gages arranged in a line parallel to one edge of the block' and connected and controlled in unison by a common forwarding and .retracting device, said forwarding and retracting device comprising a controlling-plate with parallel inclined slots in which said gages engage, and means acting directly on said plate, and means for automatically locking the said parts in position against accidental movement.
2. The combination with a printers plateblock, of a plurality of gages arranged in a line parallel to one longitudinal edge of the block, and connected and controlled in unison by a common forwarding and retracting device comprising a controlling-plate with parallel inclined slots in which said gages engage and means acting directly on said plate, means for automatically locking the said parts in position, a gage parallel to one end edge of the block, means'for advancing and retracting the same and automatic means for holding the same against accidental movement.
3. The combination with a printers plateblock, having parallel slots at one edge, of a controlling-plate movably mounted `in said block below its upper surface and having parallel inclined slots intersecting the slots of the block, said plate having a rack formed upon one edge, vmeans mounted in the under side of the block to engage and operate said rack and plate, and gages engaged in the slots of the block and plate and having beveled clamping edges extended above the block, as and for the purpose specilied.
