Description

@uiten- Tfaire @anni @time assu Busser, yerr-nov. NEW- Yonah Lara-imam No. 77,581, dated. May 5, 1868;
@the dg'emrle 'tristan tait ,tinte tettrts @met 'mounting ont not' tige sans; l
`'110 ALL W-HOM IT MAY CONCERN: l I v Be `it known lthatrI, ESEK BUssEY, ofrTrroy, :in the county'of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented certain new and .useful Improvements 'in Stove-Ovens; and I doliereby declare that .the 'following is a :fulland .exactdcscription 'of the same, reference 1being'liad tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, makingb'a part of this specification, in which-2- I :Figure 1 is a perspcctiveview of said improvement in stoves. Figure 2-is a separate perspective-view of the portable oventhereof. Figure 3 is avertical sectional view of fig. 1, and e Figure 4 is -a vertical transverse sectional viewvof aforesaid portable oven. The same lletters of `reference indicate like parts in earch of the said gures. i My said `invention 'relates to drum orsupplemental ovens, and the manner of construction, arrangement, andattachment of the same to stoves; and its nature'consists in hinging or pivoting within said ovens a divis- '.ionor rack-plate, in such Aa manner `that, when. the whole unobstructed oven-capacity or space is required for use, the `said plate may ythen beconveniently turned or folded close to the orven-side, substantially as hereinafter kfully described, 'instead of being` withdrawn entirely therefrom, as heretofore made necessary, in order to use the-whole capacity of theoven. i v A `Thesaid invention also consists in lthe peculiarity 'o'f construction of thc'back part or end ofsaid oven, and inthe arrangement of the'same indirect combination with the exterior wall vor shelll of heating-stoves, in manner substantially as -hereinafterfully described and shown. ,I
To enable lothers skilled in the art to make and use my said invention and improvements,- I now proceed to -fully describe'the same. y p v -lin-the annexedpdrawings, iig. 1 represents a heating-stove, ofthe usual known construction, and as having combined therewith an oven, C D. y
This oven is constructed with hues, E E, surrounding it, which, when saidv oven is arranged in position for nge withsaid stove, connects with its exit-iues, in manner as shown in figs. 1 and '3 of. aforesaid drawings. Arranged Within said oven, Aand hinged or pirated to tuin on journals o a therein, is a division-plate or rack, K, which is operated vby a handle, M, formed at the end ofV one of said journals, which projects vthrough the oven side, and, when turned down for use, said rack-plate rests it front part on and is supported by the lugs bb aiiixed' to the oven-sides in horizontal lines with the journals a a, so that the said plate is evenly supported by lits said journals and lugs in a horizontalposition for use, as shown in fig. 3, and when not used, itis then turned up or folded back, so as to leave'thc whole,ovenspace unobstructed, in manner as shown in hg. 2, and so `obviating -ttllfueoessity for removing said plate from the oven. This oven is supplementary or additional to heatingistoves,
to therebymakesuch stoves more useful and convenient than heretofore. y
Within the aforesaid oven there is also arranged or hinged, to turn upward and downward therein on jour `nais or pivots c c, a boiler-hole cover, H, in manner as shown in figs. 2 and 3, for the purposes ofcoveringa boiler-hole, Hl, therein. One of the said journals projects through the sid'e of the ov, to thereby form a handle, N, vby which to conveniently operate said cover, which, when the said boiler-hole is used to place vessels therein for heating water or for other purposes,`is then lturned upagainst the back part or side of the oven, so as to be no obstruction to the usesof said boiler-hole; and thus avoiding a necessity of removing said-'coveringplate entirely from the oven, as heretofore, w'hcn using said boiler-hole. l
The back partior end of the aforesaid oven D is made open, to thereby permit an 'increased a'ndmdirectl radiation of hea-t from the stove exterior wall or shell into saidoven-space, when the oven is-arranged in direct combination with said wall, P, iii manner as seen in figs. 1 and 3; and arrangedfat'the back Apart or open end of ,said oven there is a series or sat of deection-plates or slats, L L, placed horizontally across said open end, and inclined downward and inward to said oven-space, atan angle such that the rays of heat radiated from thestove'- shell or Wall'are deileeted downward and into' the lowerparts said oven, to thereby promote a circulation of heattherein 4sizdcientll'y.to eq-dalize'and maintain an even degree of heat thouh'out the said oven'.
The said inclined series of plates or slats vserves also-as a Ydireetzfguard to shield artilesplaced in the backs parts of the oven from a t oo strong or burning heat. i
'Thisaforesaid oven, asthus constructed substantially, is arranged in position fonusewith' heatirg-stoves, by 'placing its said back, end, or si'de in direct c'ontact with the, exterorvli'v-all or shell P of the stove) and con-l necting the oven-surrounding dues E E'with the exit-flue oithe stove, iu manner substantially as shown in-gsl il and 3, sothat, while continued in such arrangement, ythe Vsaid oven-flue forms :L part of the` exit-due of said stove, and when the further use of the said oven is not desired with thestove, it is theneasily removed therefrom,land itsplace, as part ofsaid exitue,fs thenlledby a suitable section of fluepipe,V the stove itself.I
remaining unaltered.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi I, 1. In combination Withan' oven attached to stoves, I claim hinging orwpivotingtherein a. division or rackplate, K, .so that it may, when not used, be folded therein-'close to the oven-side, in manner substantialiyas and'Y yfm the purpose set forth. f
2. In combination with a stove, I claiml a drum-oven, yhaving a slotted orlopen back or aide, and Iarranged Onplaced` directly besidennd again-stv the exterior wall or shell of' the combustion 'ordre-chamber' of said stove, in'tnanner substantially as arid for theY purpose herein set forth.
3Q In` combination with `zrjdlum-oven, having an open baok,oi,.side, and placed against the shell orl plate of n. stove, I claim the employmenfthe'rein o f lseries of `slats vor plates L '.L, arranged inmanner substantially as and for the purposes herein described. i
,ESEK BUSSEY.
