UNITED STATES PATENT ()EErcE.
HUGH T. DO-NNAN, OF ALVA, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY.
LENS-SUPPORT" FOR GROUND GLASSES oN oAMERAS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 774,656, dated November 8, 1904.
Application filed August 27, 1903. Serial No. 170,963. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGH T. DONNAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alva, in the county of Woods and Territory of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lens-Supports for Ground Glass on Cameras, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to lens-supports for ground glass on cameras, the object thereof being to so construct the same that the lens may be adjusted and supported in the various positions required.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like symbols of reference represent corresponding parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a view of a groundglass frame with my device attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the support, showing the ratchet portion of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the support, showing the lens connected thereto; and Fig. 4, a sectional view on line 4 4, Fig. 3, taken at right angles to same.
1 represents the ground-glass frame; 2, the lens-support; 3, the ratchet-head of the same, and 4a spring-pawl connected by a pin 5 to a plate 6.
7 is a nib or thumb-piece upon the pawl 4, and 8 a cover for the plate 6, the two plates forming a casing for the ratchet mechanism.
this construction the piece 11 maybe turnedupon the pin or screw 12, thus enabling the operator to' turnthe lens to any position required.
16 is a screw or pivot upon which the support is journaled; 17, screw-holes in the casing-cover Sand plate 6 for connecting the parts together and to the side of the groundglass frame.
The operation of the device is as follows: The plates 6 and 8 are attached to the groundglass frame on camera by means of screws or the like, the spring having been placed in the same and the support either before or after placed in the same and connected by means of the screw 16. The lens-handle is then placed in the clamps 13 and 14. When it is desired to regulate the lens, it is done by operating the thumb-piece 7 to release the ratchet, when the support 2 may be turned as desired, the same automatically locking when the thumbpiece is released. As before explained, the clamp 10 may be slid along the support 2, and the piece 11 may be turned as desired upon the clamp 10 and the lens adjusted to any part of the ground glass.
Having now'fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
a 1. Inadevice of the character described, the combination with the adjustable support of the same, of a clamp slidable upon said support, and a clamp pivotally connected to the rear of said sliding piece.
2. In a device of the character described, a ratchet-provided support, a pivot upon the ratchet end of the support, and a spring-pawl adapted to operate in connection with the same, so that the support maybe adjusted.
3. A lens-support, composed of a main support for the lens, said support carrying a ratchet-head, a pivot upon which the ratchethead is journaled, a pawl operating in connection with said head, and a thumb-piece to operate the pawl.
4. In a device of the character described, a support,-a U-shaped clamp embracing and adjustable on said support, U-shaped clamps to receive the lens, and a pivot connecting the clamps.
5. A lens-support, composed of a main support provided with a ratchet-head, a casing for the ratchet-head, a pivot upon which the ratchet-head is journaled, a spring-operated 5 pawl to act in conjunction with the ratchet, and a thumb-piece connected with the spring for operating the same.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
HUGH T. DON N AN.
