TO ALL WHOMv IT OONCERN z Be it known. that I, CHARLES FaIcKn, of Mobile, in the leounty of Mobile, andv in the State of Alabama, have invented certain'new and useful Improvements in Derricks; anddo hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and 'exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon'. ,A y

In the annexed drawings, making a par-tof this specification, A'represents'a largehrizontal beam, havin-g shoes or sockets, 13, secured to the sidesthercof.

C C represent adjustable legs, of any given dimensions, which support the horizontal beam A. The legs C C {it in the sockets B, and stand at vany required angle with each other and the beam A..

v The legs are held at the proper"` angle and distance apart bymeans of stay-braces, D and F.

An angular brace, E, is adjusted in a suitable socket therefor, for the purpose of holdingthe frame steady.

Said brace E has metallic anges, 9:,'secured to its llower end, 'by which it is fastened to a'oor'tor base.

H represents a winding-drum, of any suitable dimensions,.secured on a suitable 'shaft, having bearings on the sides of the legs 0.0,' as shown. f i

Secured to the end of the drum H is'a cog-wheel, I, which meshes with and is operatedby the pinion K. Said pinion Klis secured to a suitable shaft, J, having bearings also in the legs C'G, directly uudervthe winding-drum H.

Onthe opposite ends of said shaft J are secured cranks, L, tc orby which power is'applied tomy machine. The shaft J is so adjusted in its bearings as to slide outer into position for thepinion- K and` cog-wheel I to mesh with each other, as may be desired. I v ,y l

I It represents a metallic lever or fall, bent-in the shape shown in the drawings, ,pivoted to'onefof the legs C, and, when resting onthe shaft-J, keeps the pinion K in gearl with thewheel I secure one end of a rope, N, to the d'rum'H, and'pa'ss it thenicelup over a pulley;I),'vvhiclris hun'gto the horizontal beam by means of the metallic strap O, and pass it thence down to any placedesireldpand attach to any weight or Object desired.. l r l the lower end of the rope N, I secure avring, in which'I secure three small ropes, g gg, two of which` have rings at their ends, and the other has a hook, .for attaching to a common wheel-barrow, M The rings work over the handles, and the hook catches in the wheel vot' the wheelvbarrow. This derriok is designed more particularly to be used inabuilding while the same is being erected. 2 After one story of the building has been put up, it is designed to adjust this devceon the joists forthe second floor,

moving enough of them to provide a suitable hole or opening-for the object to be raised to pass 'through, and
