IMPROVEMENT IN DITOHING-MAGHINE.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, E. L. FOREMAN, of Rantoul, in the county of Champaign, and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ditching-Machines; and do hereby declare 'that the fol lowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and
the letters of reference marked thereon.
v In the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, A represents a wooden bar, framed together with another bar, B, fastened at a. slight angle with each other, asshown in the drawings.
The bar 13 is made in two parts, hinged together, so that the angle with the bar A may be adjusted to suit the operator. Each ofthe parts of the side B and the straight bar Ais faced at'the bottom with strips of metal, K, as is fully shown in thedrawings. g
The parts A and B are so put together as to be slightly bevelled, or inclined inward from the lower edge to the top thereof.
Secured to the side, A, is a platform or board, C, which is made pointed at its front end,and is designed as a convenient placefor the driver or operator to stand on, and, by means of one foot on the outer extremity of the lever F, to regulate the machine.
The distance of the rear ends of the parts A and B are apart, or their angle with each other is regulated ,by means of the hinged arms or Spreaders, D and E, which are provided with aseriesof holes, and pinned together by means of a suitable bolt or pin, as shown.
F represents a lever, which is held to the side, 13, by means of a suitable loop, and resting on a post or rest, H, on the side, A.
It is obvious that the operator can regulate the machine'and keep it in a ditch much better by means of the platform 0 and lever F than by the usual or ordinary method.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is-
The platform 0, in combination with-the lever F and sides A and B, whcn'arranged and used as and for the purpose specified.
