MARY ELISE JUERGENS,
UNITED STATES OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.-
IVIACHINE FOR USE IN CULINARY OPERATIONS.
SPECIFICATION forming; part of- Letters Patent No. 769,169, dated September 6, 1904:.
v Application filed MarchEZ, 1904. Serial No. 196,179. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MARY ELISE JUE RenN s, a
, citizen of the United States, residing'atChicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Machines for Use in Culinary Operations, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for use in culinary operations; and its object is to provide a machine for mixing batter, beating eggs, churning butter, and similar procedures in which one or more food ingredients are agitated or commingled. f
The invention consists in a liquid-tight receptacle in which is a wheel rotating on a horizontal axis and having peculiarly-constructed arms. The wheel is mounted on a shaft, which projects through the walls of the receptacle, and is provided with a crank-handle, by which the shaft and the wheel can be walls.
vided to permit the contents to be drawn off.'
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my machine. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one arm of the agitatorwheel. Fig. 4e is a longitudinal section of the hub of said wheel.
The receptacle 1 is made of sheet metal in the form of a rectangular box, supported on legs 2 and provided with handles 8 for carrying it. The bottom is preferably rounded on a curve concentric with a shaft 4:, which extends across from front to rear and is journaled in hearings in one or more stiffeningribs 5 on the outer face of the front and rear One end of the shaft has a crank-handle 4:. and preferably projecting from the front wall is a spout 6, above which is a sliding gate 7, which closes an opening in the receptacle coinciding with said spout.
Inside the receptacle .is a rotatable agitator or wheel comprising a hub 8, through which the shaft I passes and to which it is removably secured by set-screws 9 or otherwise. From the hub radiate a plurality of arms each consisting ofa strip 10 of thin material, such as dered to the hub 8.
v erably of wire.
At the lowest part of the receptacle wardly the metal cut out to form the opening.
The inner end of the strip is preferably bent to form a flange 13, by which it can be solare suitably stifiened, preferably by doubling over the sheet metal. The outer end of the strip is secured to two circular hoops 14, pref- The preferred mode of fas- The edges of the strip tening the strips to the hoops is by bending\ the end of the strip to form'a flange 15 and then curling the ends of said flange around the hoops, as shown at 16.
The mode of operation is as follows: The lid 17 is lifted off and the batter, eggs, milk, or other substance or mixture to be operated on is put into the receptacle. The lid is then replaced, and the crank-handle L is turned to rotate the wheel. The openings in the radial cleaning.
Having thus describedmy invention, what I claim is 1. In a machine of the class described, the combination with a receptacle, of a rotatable agitator therein, comprising radial arms each consisting of a strip of material having openings and a transverse flange at its outer end, and hoops lying inplanes parallel with the edges of the arms and engaged by the ends of said flanges.
2. In a machine of the class described, a rotatable agitator comprising radial arms each consisting of a strip of material having openings therein and oblique blades each having one edge coincident with the edge of an opening and parallel with'the axis of rotation.
3. In a machine of the class described, a rohaving portions cut and bent to form oblique tatable agitator having radial arms each comblades ad acent to transverse openings, said posed of a strip of sheet metal with doubled blades having perforations.
edges, and a transverse flange at each end, Intestimony\vhereofIhavesignedmyname 5 having portions cut and bent to form oblique to this specification in the prcscnccof two sub- 5 blades adjacent to transverse openings. scribing Witnesses.
4. In a machine of the class described, a ro- MARY ELISE JUERGENS. tatable agitator having radial arms each com- Witnesses: posed of a strip of sheet metal with doubled J AMES BLACK,
