TO ALL WHOM I'I MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEURGE M. ZELL, ot' Waynesville, in the county of Warren, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Harness-Attachment; land that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, hereinafter referred to, forms a fulland exact specification'oi` the same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principles of-my said improvements, by which my invention may be distinguished from all others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim, and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent.
'lhe object ofthe present invention is to dispense Awith the use of the ordinary tugs or traces to harnesses, and, by the improved'attachment embraced herein, it is satisfactorily accomplished, and in such a.- manner as to enable a horse to be attached and detached from the shafts of the vehicle with the utmost dispatch and ease, it requiring but the buckling and unbucklingoi' one buckle.
In the accompanying plate of drawings my improved h'ari'iess-attachment is illustrated'- f Figure 1 being a side view of the attachment, in connection with one ofthe shafts ofthe vehicle, on which it is shown as applied, and I Figure 2 a transverse vertical section taken in the plane oi' the line :t z, fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A, in the drawings, represents one of the shafts of a carriage, to the under side of which a plate, B, is secured' that at C is notched.
This link is hung to a plate or holder, E, having a str-np, F, that, being passed around under the shaft, and buckled to the belly-band of the harness, holds the link to its place in the notched plate B.
G and H, straps hung t0 holder E, one, G, of which straps connects with thccollar or haines. I, a strap, by which attachment is suspended or fastened to the saddle.
J, a rubber cushion upon under side of holder-plate, between it and the upper side of the shafts, to prevent the wear ofthe same from any friction of' the holder or plate upon it. l
Among the many advantages secured by my improved attachment for harnesses may bc here meutioned- That tugs are dispensed with, consequently greatly reducing the cost ofthe harness,l
That' a horse can be hitched or unhitched with the utmost ease and dispatch.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the' holder-plate-E, having the elastic cushion J, the link D, strap F, and notched plate B upon the under side ofthe shaft A, all constructed and arranged as described for the purpose specified.
' GEO. 'M ZELL.

In this notch fits a link, D, forming a part of my improved harness-attaehment.
