TO ALL WHOM j IT MAYl CONCERN:
Bo it known that'I, MI'LES B. WBEATON, of the city and State oflNe'w York, have invented andmade a. A
certain new and useful Improvement in Clothes-Brien; and I do hereby declare the following to be a. full, clear, and exact description 'of'the said invention, referencebeing had to the annexed drawing, makngrpart of this specification, wherein- Figurel is a plan of said clothes-drier asA unfoldedl for use. Figure 2 is a longitudiual'section of thesa'me, in a correspondingposition; and Figure 3 is an end view of the same.
Similar marks of reference denote thesame parts.. Y My invention consists in two pairs of folding legscombinedrwith a horizontal frame, with c1'oss-pieccs,`over which to hang clothes, and with a pair of folding frames, hinged so that they can bez-*swung into an inclined position to the horizontal-framaand increase the capacity of the drier for holding' clothes, when desired.
In the drawing, ava are the side-pieces, and b b the'cross-rungs or sluts forming a'horizontnl frame. c e are legs, joined by the rangs or slats datand hinged at e tothe` fra-me a b, so that it will fold up against the under side of the said frame, as indicated-by theA` red are, .Whenopened, the upper ends 'of the legs c come'v against the end slats 6 to prevent the legs turning further.
The legs gg are united bythe slatsff,`and hinged at le.' by lthe bracket-pieces, so as to fold upoutside of the legs a c when swung together, as 4indicated by the blue line. knuckle at z', coming against the under*- side of the frame a, prevents the legs g turning too for.
The swinging frames k and united, respectively, by thecross-pieces m and n, are.11nitednear the ends.l
oftho frame a, andvwhen foldedin the position shown by the red and blue lines, the .rungs or cross-pieces m, n, and t, areion line, one above the other, andwhen spread, the respective frames stand in the positions indicated by tlie black lines,y the frame k m being sustained by the ylower ends' of the pieces tcoming in Contact with the end slat b, and the knuckles o on the frame Zn takiugvupon the upper surface of a, sustain said frame.
This folding clothes-drier occupies but little space when folded, and when spread will receiveandsustain a large amount of clothes while drying, or airing after-being iro-ned.
- What I claim, and desire tovsecure by Letters Patent, isl' The frame a b, with the two pairs oflegs c g, one pair provided with knuckles z', the other resting against the rungs b, to admit of the parts being folded parallel, .as shown.z Y
i In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my signature, this twenty-seventh day of February, 1868.
