Lavor, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, borough of Manhattan, vand State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyeglasses, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

eyeglasses, and has for its primary object the provision of what is commonly known as a box-clamp, possessing novel characteristics i which facilitate a rigid clamping of the noseguard and vspring tlierewithin.

A convenient embodimeiitof the invention comprises a box-clamp open at one side and having oppositely-disposed inwardly-divergi ing walls or surfaces adjacent to said'open; side and so arrangedV that when Vthe opposite Q walls :of the clamp are forced together by suitable means the nose-.guard and spring or l either of them will' be'iirmly embraced both sidewise and edgewise,there'by effectually preventing any possible play of the same in either of these directions.

The improved details in the constructionv and arrangement of the several parts of the device will be apparent from the detailed description hereinafter whenread in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and wherein the above-mentionedV embodiment of the invention is clearly illus-".-

From this construction it will be appreciated that upon the insertion of the securing portion or shank c of the guard E and the end of the spring D, both of them having centrally-dis- .posed apertures or slots (l of suficient size for the purpose, the tightening of the screw G will draw the walls of the 'clamp together, thereby causing themV to impinge upon said shank e and spring, thusfirmly' holding the same against sidewise movement, and the inclined walls H will force the same inwardly to effect a binding action between said surfaces and the rear wall a' of the clamp, which will' prevent any edgewise movement of the spring or guard. Filling-pieces or enlargements I at the inner corners of the clamp facilitate the binding action upon -the parts to be held, as well as overcoming any liability or tendency of the parts to tilt or separate at their "inner edges. It is believed, however, that in practice these pieces I may be dispensed with.

Thedifferentiating characteristic of they that the invention is rather comprehensive in character and that various changes and alterations may be made in thedetails of construction herein disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A box-clamp of the character described open at one side and having oppositelydisposed normally inwardly diverging walls or surfaces adjacent to said open side.

2. box-clamp of the character described open at one side and having oppositely-disposed adjustable clamping-walls one of which is normalljT inclined inwardly.

3. A box-clamp of the character described open at one side and having oppositely-disposed normally inwardly diverging walls or surfaces adjacent to said open side, said walls having alined apertures.

4. A box-clamp of the character described having oppositelydisposed adjustable normally inwardly diverging walls or surfaces.

i 5. A box-clamp of the character described having oppositely disposed normally inwardly diverging walls or surfaces, the same having alined apertures.

6. A box-clamp of the character described open at one side and having oppositely-dis- `posed inwardly-diverging Walls or surfaces adjacent to said open side, and filling-pieces or enlargements at the inner corners of the clamps.

7. A box-clamp of the character described. having oppositely-disposed walls formed to clamp both inwardly and laterally.

8. A box-clamp of the character described having voppositely-disposed walls formed to clamp both inwardly and laterally in combination with means for adjusting said walls.

9. A box-clamp of the character described having oppositely-disjiiosed aperturcd binding-walls, and a stud or shank projecting from one of said walls and havinga sercw-threauled bore in alinement with the apertures in the walls.

13. A box-clamp of the character described having oppositely-disposed apertured binding-walls open at one side, and a stud or shank projecting from one 0f said walls and having a screw-threaded bore in alinement with the apertures in the walls.
