TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. WARNER, of Pittsfield, Berkshire county, Commonwealth of' Mssachusetts, have invented e new and useful'nuprovement in Blinds; and I do hereby declare that the followingl is a. full and clear description thereof', referencev being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. In the drawings- Figure 1 represents a side view of my blind, and
Figure 2 an end view of one of the slats.
This invention consists of a new method of constructing the slats of the folding shutters commonly used, Where all the slats are connected together by en upright rod, and are pivoted in the blind-frame so that they can be closed or opened at pleasure.
In my construction ofthese slats, a ct a, Ste., (see drawings,) I form all' the tenons, ZJ la b, lite., of metal tubes, which are driven in the ends of the slats suiieiently far to leave a. proper length for a tenon to enter and work in the blind-frame A, and to secure a. firm position in the end of the slot.' These tubes may be, it' necessary, slightly flattened upon the outer side of the part in the slet, so as to secure a firmer hold.
Formerly, these slats a a, duc., were formed with tenons cut out from the Woodof the slet itself, and required considerable more Work informing them than is the case with my improved method.
Besides this, when the tenons were worn by the friction, they becnme loose, and'required a new set ofl slats to take their places. I l
In my device, the tenon being made of metal, does not wear pcrceptibly, nor does it ever bind, as is sometimesthe caso with the wooden tenons when first put in, and it being n. simple and cheap device, of easy manufacture, greatly improves the construction of' the blind, and reduces.' its cost.
lNow, having described my invention, what 'I claim as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is-
A blind, in which the tenonsof theslets, a a,&c., nre formed of tubes of metal, b I), 85e., inserted into the ends of the slats, substantially as herein shown.
CHARLES H. WARNER.
