PATENT OFFICE.
MARY L. LARGE, OF CLIFTON SPRINGS, NEW YORK.
CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 767,572, dated August 16, 1904,
Application filed November 1'7, 1897. Serial No. 658,798. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY L. LARGE, of Clifton Springs, in the county of Ontario, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in corsets, and has for its object the production of a corset which presents a neat and attractive appearance, is readily secured in position, and is particularly effective in use; and to this end it consists in the combination,' construction, and arrangement of the parts of a corset, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In describing this invention reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which like letters indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved corset shown in its operative position. Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5 are enlarged detail sectional views taken, respectively, on lines 2 2, 3 3, 4 4, and 5 5, Fig. 1; and Figs. 6, 7, 8, and 9 are face views, partly broken away, representing, respectively, the back, side, and front pieces composing one of the sections or parts of my invention. V
A corset A embodying my invention is preferably composed of right-hand and left-hand sections orv parts a a, each of which is formed of back, side, and front pieces a (4 60 a and usually consists of inner and outer layers or coatings a (0 of celluloid, middle layers a of fabric or other flexible material, and stiff-.
ening-strips a interposed between the middle layers a and between the inner and. outer layers or coatings a (0 The bust and hip portions of the sections or parts a a are usuextending through the inner and outer faces of the sections or parts a a, and with reinforcing-loops a encircling said apertures and interposed between'the inner and outer layers or coatings a a and between the middle layers a The front edges of the sections or parts a a are united by suitable fasteners a, removably arranged in the apertures a and the adjacent loops a. These fasteners are usually held in "position by a flap a which projects from the inner face of the section or part 0 across the inner ends of the apertures in said section, is provided with a suitable lengthwise stiffening-piece a and engages the rear faces of said fasteners a".
The rear edges of the sections or parts a a are preferably secured together by a suitable lacing-cord a ,passed through the apertures a and the adjacent reinforcing-loops a.
7 A corset of the described construction is extremely flexible, may be closely fitted to the wearer, presents a pleasing appearance, and may be readily cleaned by a moistened cloth.
The construction and operation of my improved corset will now be readily understood from the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The herein-described section or part of a corset, the same consisting of inner and outer layers or coatings of celluloid, layers of fabric or other flexible material interposed between the former layers or coatings, and stiffening-strips between the layers of fabric, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination with separate sections or parts of a corset each being provided with inner and outer coatings of celluloid and layers of fabric or other flexible material interposed between the layers of celluloid, said sections having adjacent edges provided with apertures, and reinforcing-loops interposed between the layers of fabric and encircling the apertures, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The combination with separate sections or parts of a corset, each being provided with inner and outer layers orcoatings of celluloid, and layers of fabric or other flexible material interposed between the former layers or coatings, said sections or parts having their adjacent edges provided with apertures extending through the inner and outer faces of the outer layers or coatings, and reinforcingloops interposed between the layers of fabric or other flexible material and encircling the apertures, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. The combination with separate sections or parts of a corset having adjacent edges provided with apertures extending through the inner and outer faces of said sections or parts, and reinforcing loops encircling the apertures, one of the sections or parts being formed with a flap projecting from its inner face across the inner ends of the apertures of said section or part, substantially as and for the purpose described.
5. The combination with separate sections or parts of a corset, each being provided with inner and outer layers or coatings of celluloid, and layers of fabric or other flexible material interposed between the former layers or coatings, said sections or parts having adjacent edges provided with apertures extending through the inner and outer faces of the outer layers or coatings and reinforcing-loops interposed between the layers of fabric or other flexible material and encircling the apertures, one of said sections being formed with a flap projecting from its inner face across the inner ends of the apertures of said section, substantially as and. for the purpose specified.
6. The combination with separate sections or parts of a corset, each being provided with inner and outer layers or coatings of celluloid, and layers of fabric or other flexible material interposed between the former layers or coatings, said sections or parts having adjacent edges provided with apertures extendingthrough the inner and outer faces of the outer layers or coatings and reinforcing-loops interposed between the layers of fabric or other flexible material and encircling the apertures, one of said sections being formed with a flap projecting from its inner face across the inner ends of the apertures of said section and provided with a lengthwise stiffening-strip, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name, in the presence of two attesting witnesses, at Clifton Springs, in the county of Ontario, in the State of New York, this 31st day of August, 1897.
