UNLOADING DEVICE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 766,866, dated August 9, 1904.

improved and simple device for the purpose stated in such form that it may be readily constructed by almost any person and applied to any ordinary wagon-box.

It comprises two scrapers,which are located in the wagon-box and which are operated by ropes connected to a winding-drum at the tail of the box. Two scrapers are used,and they may be arranged so that only half of the load will be dumped at once.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan of a wagon-box provided with. the device. Fig. 2 is a cross-section on the line2 2. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 3 3.

Referring specifically to the drawings, a wagon-box of ordinary construction is shown at 6, and slidable upon the bottom ofthe box are two scrapers, one of which comprises a triangular bottom piece 7, which is beveled down to a thin edge in front, which front edge extends straight across the bottom of the box. The rear edges are at an angle to each other, and secured to each edge are upright boards 8, which are inclined toward each other and joined at the middle. These boards, extend to the sides of the box, and their action is to scrape the load away from the sides toward The ends of these sides have notches 9, through each of which a rope 10 extends, with a knot 11 behind the boards, so that when the rope is wound up the scraper will be drawn along the bottom of the wagon-box. This scraper is preferably located at or near the middle of the box.

Theother scraper comprises a bottom board 12, which is also beveled down to a thin edge in front, and joined to the squared ends of Serial No. 198,343. (No model.)

this board are side pieces 13, which fit closely to the sides of the box. A rear board 14L, joined to the bottom and the sides, completes the scraper. The ropes 10 are connected to the sides of the scraper, near the bottom thereof,

in any suitable manner. This scraper is preferably located near the head of the wagon against the front board. The winding-drum 15 is provided with a crank 16 and is supported at a distance beyond the tail of the wagon by two beams 17, bolted to and pro jecting endwise from the rear ends of the sides of the wagon-box. The ropes are connected to this drum.

The parts of the ropes between the two scrapers are preferably slack, sufiiciently so that the rear scraper may be drawn to the tail end of thewagon before the front scraper is moved.

In use, the scrapers being in the position shown in the drawings, when the wagon is loaded the rear scraper is hauled to the tail of the wagon, carrying with it the rear half of the load, which is thus unloaded. Then the ropes are slipped out of the notches 9 and the rear scraper removed, and continued haul on the ropes will then draw the front scraper to the rear of the wagon and dump the remaining half of the load.

Obviously additional scrapers of the kind designated as the rear scraper may be used, according to the number of dumps desired or according to the strength of the o1: erator,which, as may be apprehended, might be suflicient to unload part of the load and not all of it. Hence a device whereby part of the load can be moved is desirable.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
