EMORY W. FENN, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
FLOOR AND CEILING SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No 766,609, dated August 2, 1904.
Application filed April 22, 1904.
To all whom it may 00/. 'l'l'll.
Be it known that I, EMORY \V. FENN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Floor and Ceiling Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to means for supporting the floors and ceilings of fireproof buildings, and has for its object to provide floor and ceiling supports which shall be simple in construction and strong and durable in use: and it consists of a hanger supported upon a girder and adapted to sustain both the floor and ceiling bars and permit the ceiling to be arranged below the girder, so as to leave anair-spaee, when desired.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an end view of two girders used in the construction of fireproof buildings, showing my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a hanger adapted to sustain the ceiling and floor bars, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a modification thereof.
As illustrated in the drawings, A represents I-shaped beams or girders used in fireproof constructions. A hanger B, having long and short depending arms, is supported upon the top of the girders and provided with apertures 1), adapted to support the ends of floorbars O. The lower end of said hanger is provided with an aperture I), which engages a ceiling-bar D. The long arm of the hanger is preferably extended below the bottom of the girders, so as to make the ceiling-bars D free from contact with the girders and leave an air-space above the ceiling. The long arm of the hangers preferably bears against the edge of the upper and lower flanges of the girders, thereby bracing said arm in position. The usual cement filling E is built up from the lower flange and side of the girders and carried across to the adjacent girder and embeds the floor-bars C and the long arm of the hanger B, and thereby holds said arm securely in position.
Serial No. 204,335. No model.)
One of the depending arms of the hanger may be modified without departing from my invention. Thus one of the arms may be omitted and a retaining-lip substituted adapted to overlap the edge of the girder and securely hold the hanger in position on the girder, as shown in Fig. 3. I prefer, however, to use the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The com bination with a girder, of a hanger supported on the top of said girder and provided with a depending arm, a floor-bar and a ceiling-bar supported by said arm, substantially as shown and described.
2-. The combination with a girder, of a hanger supported on the top of said girder and provided with depending arms, floor-bars supported by said arms, and a ceiling-bar supported on the lower end of one of said arms, substantially as shown and described.
3. The combination with a girder having upper and lower lateral flanges, of a hanger supported on the top of said girder and provided with a depending arm, a floor-bar and a ceiling-bar supported by said arm, and filling material incasing said arm and floor-bar, substantially as shown and described.
4. The combination with a girder having upper and lower lateral flanges, of a hanger supported on top of said girder, and provided with a depending arm extending below the bottom of said girder, a floor-bar supported by the upper end, and a ceiling-bar supported by the lower end of said arm below the bottom of said girder, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereofI have signed my name to this specification in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
