I-IOMER W. POTTER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
FIRE-CRACKER PISTOL.
Application tied November 12, 190
o al?, whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, HOMER W. POTTER, a itizen of the United States, residing at De'- roit, in the county of Wayne and State of dichigan, have invented certainnew and useul Improvements in Fire-Cracker Pistols, of vhich the following is a speciiication.
The object of my invention is to produce a :heap holder for tire-crackers into which the .ire-cracker body may beV readily introduced, from which it cannot be readily accidentally dropped, and from which it can be forcibly expelled.
The accompanying invention.
Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 -is a central vertical section; Fig. 3, a perspective View of the plunger, and Fig. 4 a section on line 4 4 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, indicates a main body having barrel 11, in the upper wall of which is formed a longitudinal slot 12. Body 10 and barrel 11 Will in practice be preferably made in two halves secured together in any suitable manner. The slot 12 extends clear tothe for- Ward end of the barrel, and mounted in the barrel is a suitable plunger 13, behind which 1s arranged a propelling-spring 14. Plunger 13 is provided with a linger-piece 15, which progects outward through slot 12, and the plunger may be retained in its rear position, with the spring compressed, by means of a suitable trigger 16. Plunger 13 is also provided with a finger 17, which passes into the end of spring 14. Thus far the mechanism is substantially old, except that the slot 12 eX- drawings illustrate my dated August 2, 1904.
3. serial No. 180,830. (No man tends clear to the forward end of the barrel. With such a structure a fire-cracker can be introduced into the barrel and its fuse hung out through the slot 12; but if the barrel happened to be slightly inclined downward the cracker would fall out. I therefore form in one side of barrel 11 a transverse slot 18, which connects with slot 12 and into which the fuse 19 v may be drawn at right angles to the barrel 11,
thus locking the cracker in the barrel.
In operation the fuse may be lighted, and when it has burned down close to the barrel 11 the trigger 16 may be pulled and the cracker thereupon forc'bly expelled from the pistol into the air, where it will explode.
I claim as myinvention-F 1. A {ire-cracker pistol consisting of a hollow receiving barrel, suitable propelling mechanism arranged therein, and a transverse retaining -slot 18 through which the firecracker fuse may be projected.
2. A fire-cracker pistol consisting' oi' a main body, and a tubular receiving-barrel having a longitudinal slot extending to the end thereof, suitable propelling mechanism arranged in the barrel, and a transverse slot formed in the barrel and communicating with the longitudinal slot through which transverse slot the {ire-cracker fuse may project. v
In Witness whereof 1 have hereunto set my hand and seal, at Indianapolis, Indiana, 10th day of November', A. I). 1903. i
