IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-DRUMS.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CON CERN: e
lBe it known that I, JACOB VOEGTLE, of Indianapolis., in the county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Heat-Regulators; and I-do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction' and operation of the same, referencebeing had tothe annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon. y
The object of myinvention is to construct a heat-regulator for use in drums, stove-pipes, and the like, that shall be more perfect, complete, and economical than any similar device heretofore known or used.
A plan view of my regulator is represented by Figure 1 of the drawings'. The letter F is the inner cylinder; letter E is the outer cylinder; and letters D represent aseries of small cylinders" that are set lon theoutside of both. e Letter a is a damper constructed in Athe shape of a disk, hung at itsv centre, inside cylinder F, by a rod, as shown, and by which it is operated. vSaid rod extends, ou one side,` to the outside of -my regulator, and has attached to it there a thumb-piece, by which it may be easily moved.
Small spurs extend from said thumb-piece where itjoinsthe regulator, by means of which the damper is held in a notch in the regulator, in any desirediposition. l Letter B represents a perforated ring, the apertures in which correspond in size and'shape to similar openings in cylinder F. A rod extends from this ring to the outsideoil cylinder E, and said rod has a thumb-piece attached thereto, by which said ring is moved backward or forward, and thereby the said openings in cylinder- F opened or closed at will. Letter C is a perforated plate'set at right angles with the ring B, and adjusted to open or close apertures corresponding with its own, leading 'from thespace formed above the plate G next mentioned. Plate C has also a thumb-piece, by which it is operated, loutside the cylinder Letter G represents another `perforatedplate, with tliumb-pieceattached, and its openings correspond with apertures on the bottom of the regulator.
Near the top of my regulator, and on the outside of cylinder F, I attachanother ring, marked H. It has openings into cylinder F, andit also has an arm andJthumb-piece extending to the outside of the regulator, by which it is moved backward or'forward, as thecase may require, to open or close the openings in cylinder F, last mentioned.
The drawings properly represent my regulator as having the formof an upright tower, of the Corinthian order of architecture, of which thesumrnit and base have the same circumference; and the small outer cylinders D have-the appearance of columns set between a base and capital, lwhich constitutes the base of the regulator. Between the plates G and C is a chamber o f about ten inches in depth, more or less, and a chamber of a similar depth is left between the bottom and top of' the capital.
i Over the top of the capital is a movable perforated plate, rounded in the form shown ou the drawings, marked K. It ts closely over said top, and its openings cor-respond lin size 'and number with openings left in said top. It isoperated by means of a thumb-piece, and opens or closes the chamber in the capital at the will of the operator. u
My regulator is opera-ted as follows: The cylinder F fits closely over the pipe of the stoveor furnace, and
l'the heat is first received therein. If it be desirable to allow the heat .to pass from cylinder F to cylinder E,
the damper a and ring() are adjusted accordingly. 'l
o allow thelieat tcfpass into the chambers in the base and capital, I move the plates C and H, so as to open Athe apertures leading thereto respectively. To allow the heat to pass into the room, I open the top and bottom ofthe regulator by moving the plates G and K.
By mea-ns of these several devices, I am enabled to regulate the heat from a stove o'r furnace in such manner as to approximate to a perfect cont-rol thereof, and henc greater extent than can be accomplished by any other device for that purpo I dovnotclaim that either of the devices herein described is new perse, or that .the combination of any two e to economize in the use of the same to a far so heretofore known or used.'
f them is entirely novel. The form and 's'hpe of myregulator, however, as an ornament, have no equal, and the entire combinations described have never, before beeninvented or known.
What I claim as my inyenbion, and design to seure by Letters Patent, is- A heut-regulator, having cylinders F, E, and D, damper a, ringe B und H,- and plates C, Geand K, 4consttucted, arranged, and combined substantially as and for the purposes herein specified.
