TO ALL -WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, W. E. BROCK, of the city, county, and State of New- York, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Dummies for Displaying Clothing; and I do hereby declaro that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptiomoi` the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a portion of this specification, in which 'Figure 1 is a front view of a dummy made according to my invention.
Figure is a vertical transverse section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
This invention consists in a. dummy designed for displaying wearing-apparel, and composed pf a suitablyshaped shell'ot` paper, papier mache, or other like material, and provided with a head-'piece and supportingshaft, braces and base, whereby a. device is secured which may bemade at a very moderate cost, and which is not exposed to the excessive liability to accidental injurycharacteristic of the dummies `formed of wire in the usual manner. y

A represents the shell or hollow body of the dummy', designed to bear some resemblance inits general external configuration to the upper portion of the` human figure. This shell is made of'papcr, orpapier mache,
and has secured in its neck or upper end-a head-piece, a.of wood or other like material; into which is fitted t'hc upper end of a. vertical supporting-shaft, B, which extends centrally through the shell, and is furnished at its lower end with an appropriate base, C.. The shaft B 1s furthermore provided. with radial braces b, which serve to retain the shell in proper position upon the shaft. v v I The dummy thus constructed may be employed for displaying clothing orpapparel in the same manner as the dummies ordinarily in use, but from the nature of the material of which the shell is formed, and the fact that it presentsa continuous surface upon which the coat, shawl, or like article placed thereon may rest, it is found not only much chen-per to manufacture, and lighter and more convenient to move or handle,'but also more effective in properly displaying the clothing than'the ordinary dummies just hereinbefore mentioned.
When desired, legs and arms oi vany suitable or desired shape or conformation may be applied to the dummy for the purpose of'more effectuaily displaying the arms of coats or similar garments, or for showing` to better advantage pantaloons, Ste. y
