No. 763,809. PATENTED JUNEZB, 1904;. G. W. SWITZER. PIPE REPAIRER.
APPLICATION FILED AUG.11, 1902,

PATENT OFFICE.
PIPE-REPAIRER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 763,809, dated June 28, 190A. Application filed August 11, 1902, Serial No. 119,258. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, GEORGE W. Swrrznn, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Repairers, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The invention relates to devices for stopping holes or cracks in pipes.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, eifective, and durable leak-stopper of the class described and capable of ready application to the exterior of a pipe. This object is accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective and Fig. 2 an end view of my improved leak-stopper or piperepairer applied to a pipe.
A designates the main plate of the stopper and of curved contour to snugly lit over the exterior of that portion of the pipe containing the crack or opening. This plate may be of any desired size and will in practice be made up in different sizes. One edge of the plate A is provided with a pair of upwardly and inwardly projecting hooks a a, while the opposite edge is provided with an outwardlyprojecting apertured ear ct.
B is the fastening-strap formed of two curved sections I) b, pivoted together, as at 5 the outer end of the section 6 being provided with lateral projections 6 which engage the hooks (0 a, while the outer end of section 7) is provided with an outwardly-projecting apertured ear I), which lies parallel with the ear a.
C is the fastening-bolt passed through the ears a b and provided with a nut, by means of which the members of the stopper or repairer are drawn tightly around the pipe.
To apply the stopper or repairer, the nut is removed and the main plate A is laid upon the cracked or apertured portion of the pipe and the strap is drawn around the opposite side of the pipe. The bolt is now inserted in the apertured ears and the nut applied and tightened to the desired extent.
If found necessary, a sheet of some soft and compressible material such as rubber, leather, or lead or a layer of puttymay be inserted between the plate A and the pipe.
It will be seen that the jointed strap B will fit Very closely around the pipe and will allow for surface inequalities.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
As an improved article of manufacture, a leak-stopper or pipe-repairer, consisting of a curved main plate provided at one end with a pair of hooks and at its opposite end with bolt-carrier ear or lug, and a fastening-strip formed of two sections pivoted together, one section having projections or lugs at one end in engagement with said hooks, said projections or lugs being in the same plane with the surface of the fastening-strip, and the other section having an apertured ear to receive said bolt, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I hereto afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE W. SVVITZER.
Witnesses:
