SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 763,386, dated June 28, 1904.

To all whont it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ELBERT LAMONT FrroH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Highland Mills, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Alarm Devices, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The object of this invention is to provide a window with an alarm device whereby any attempt to enter a room or apartment through the window will operate an alarm at any desired point within said room or apartment or within a building; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device or apparatus of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, said drawing being an inside view of a window and showing my improvement applied thereto.

In the drawing forming part of this specification I have shown at a an ordinary window-frame, in the top portion of'which is mounted a shade-roller 6, provided with the usual shade c, and in the practice of my invention, as shown in the drawing, I secure in the corners of the frame eyelets or similar devices d. To one of the eyelets cZthat in the lower right hand corner, as shown in the drawingI secure a cord or wire 0, which is passed around the window-frame and through the other eyelets d and the free end of which is passed through the first eyelet d at the lower right-hand corner of the frame, as shown at 6 The wire or cord (2 is provided with a plurality of rings f, which are secured thereto in any desired manner between each of the eyelets (Z, and secured to the wire or cord 0 and to that part thereof at the top of the frame in the form of construction shown and preferably adjacent to the eyelet (Z in the upper right-hand corner of theframe is another cord or wire 9, and this wire or cord 9 is passed downwardly through two of the rings f at the bottom of the frame and then upwardly and through two of the rings fat the top of the frame, and so on, until the entire window is covered by vertically-arran ged reaches of the wire or cord 9, and said wire or cord 9 is secured in the form of constructi on shown to the wire or cord 0 near the lower 1e ft-hand corner of the frame, as shown at I also provide a transversely-arranged wire or cord it, which is secured in the form of construction shown to the wire or cord 0 below and near to the upper right-hand eyelet cl and woven transversely of the window through the rings f at each side thereof, as clearly shown in the drawing, and secured to the cord e at the left side of the frame and near the bottom eyelet (Z, as shown at W, and by means of this construction the window is covered by a network of wires or cords arranged transversely and longitudinally thereof and laced through the rings f, which are secured to the cord or wire a.

At any suitable point within the room or compartment or within a building is secured a plate 2'', having a central support 6 provided with a binding screw or post i and the support is insulated from the plate t', and pivoted therein is a lever j. A link-shaped device is is also secured to the plate 2' in line with the support 71 and provided with a binding screw or post if, and said link-shaped device is insulated from the plate a, and one end of the lever j is movable therein, and the other end of said lever is connected with said plate by a spring 7' which normally holds the said lever in the position shown in the drawing, in which the end thereof within the link-shaped device it is free andvadapted to move slightly toward or from the binding screw or post 762, and the end a of the wire or cord 6 is connected with the lever adjacent to the spring f At any suitable point or adjacent to the plate 2' is placed a battery m, and a wire m is connected with said battery and with the binding screw or post and another wire a is connected with the binding screw or post 2' and with the battery m, and placed in the circuit thus formed is an alarm device 0.

The shade 0, which is wound on the roller 6 in the usual manner, is also preferably pro vided at the lower end thereof with a cord 10, and in practice when the shade is lowered, as shown in the drawing, this cord may be secured to the wire or cord 0, as shown at 72 The operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the following statement thereof. If a party or person attempts to enter the compartment or room through the window, pressure will be applied to the cords 7L and g or the network formed thereby, and this pressure, no matter at what point it be applied, will be exerted on the free end of the wire or cord 0, and the lever] will be operated, and the end thereof within the link-shaped device it will be thrown out into contact with the binding screw or post if, and the circuit through the battery 71/. and the alarm device 0 will be closed, and said alarm device will be operated, and if an attempt be made to raise the shade c a similar result will be produced, which will indicate that some one is attempting to enter through the window.

My improved alarm device or apparatus is simple in construction and operation and may be quicklyand easily applied to any window and may be removed therefrom whenever desired, all that is necessary in order to apply the same to a window being to attach the eyelets d, which may be done in any desired manner, and by detaching said eyelets the apparatus may be removed from the window whenever necessary, and in practice that part of the apparatus which is connected with the window is preferably made complete and ready to be attached whenever necessary by simply screwing the eyelets (Z into the window-frame or otherwise connecting said eyelets with said frame, and that part of the apparatus connected with the window-frame therefore consists of the eyelets d, the cord or wire 6, passed therethrough, as shown and described, and other cords interwoven through the rings f, with which the cord or wire a is provided.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In an alarm apparatus for windows, a plurality of eyelets adapted to be connected with the window-frame at the corners thereof, a wire or cord connected with one of said eyelets and passed through the others, a plurality of rings connected with said cord between said eyelets, other cords interwoven in opposite directions through said rings. and an electrical alarm device in operative connection with one end of the cord or wire which is passed through one of said eyelets, substantially as shown and described.

2. In an apparatus of the class described, the combination with a window-frame of eyelets secured at the corners thereof, a wire or cord connected with one of said eyelets and passed through the others and provided with rings between said eyelets, cords interwoven through said eyelets in opposite directions and an electrical alarm device in operative connection with one end of said wire or cord, substantially as shown and described.
