Be it known that I, WILLIAM OST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Improvement in Pneumatic Horse-Collars; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to numerals of reference marked thereon,'which'form a .part of this specification.

The objectsr of this invention are to secure greater comfort for horses or other draftanimals while drawing their loads, to enable the pneumatic sac within the collar to be more readily removed therefrom for the purpose of repair, inflating, or other purposes, to reduce the cost of construction, and to secure other advantages and results, some of which may be referred to hereinafter in'connection with the description of the working parts.

The `invention consists in theimproved pneumatic liorse-collar and in the arrangements and combinations of` parts of the same, all substantially as'will be hereinafter set' forth and iinally embraced in the clauses ofV the claim.

Said outer iiap 13 being joined or fastened to the inner iap 11 and to the fore-Wale at a distance from the lacing-joint, it is obvious that when it is found desirable to remove the flexible sac hereinafter referred to access to the lacing cords or thongs can be gained with greater ease, and yet when in use the laced joint is entirely covered and concealed by said orna mental outer flap 13, which extends from the fore-Wale, to which it is stitched, laterally outw'ard, the free edge distantA from the stitching lying over said joint and free to permit the fingers to enter between.

Within the casing 10 11y 'is arranged the sac 14, which is of iiexible fabric or material impervious to air, the same being preferably of rubber or other material impervious to both moisture and air. rlhe said parts are all suitably shaped to secure a proper receptacle for the sac and to properly iit the animals neck `and comfortably serve the purposes of a collar. rIhe saidsac is provided with a valve or inlet 15, of any ordinary construction, through which the air may be forced and retained when infiating the said sac.

I am aware that various modiications may be made in the construction of th'e collar. For example, the sac may be in sections corresponding with a similar construction of the collar, and the shape and detail construction of the collar may be varied to suit the various styles and patterns now common in the market.
