PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS E. WATERMAN, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO EMERSON MANUFACTURING COMPANY OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS, A VCORPORA- TION OF ILLINOIS.
CULTIVATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 761,734, dated une '7, 1904.
Application filed March 30, 1904.
T0 all whom, t may concern;
Be it known that I, LEWIS E. WATERMAN, a citizenot' the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county ot' Winnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oultivators, of which the tollowing is a speciiication.
The object of this invention is to regulate the working depth of the shovels.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation ot' a cultivator embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view oi' so much of a cultivator as is necessary to show the application of my improvements.
The cultivator herein shown in the main is the same as patented to me ot' April 28, 1903, No. 726,596, so that a detailed description is not deemedv necessary.
The frame 1 is supported upon wheels 2, and drag-bars 3 have a pivotal connection with the main frame at their forwardends. Upon the axle L is mounted two mast-arms 5, one for each drag-bar, and to the Jr'ree end of each of which is pivotally connected a mast, having its lower end pivotally connected to a dragbar 3. The brace-rods 7 connect the upper portions of the mast-arms 5 with the axle 4. To the lower end of each of the mast-arms and in rear 0T' the aXle is pivoted a link 8, having its front end in hook form, to which is connected a spring 9, the other end of the spring being connected to the main frame. The rear end of this link is in the form oi' a toothed segment, as shown at 10. To the center of the toothed segment is pivoted ya lever 1l,
This lever also sup- Serial No. 200,807. (No model.)
ports a spring-actuated thumb-lever 13, having its lower end adapted to enter the notches of the toothed segment. The cam 12 is located just back of the mast-arm 5 and in contact therewith. By means of this arrangement the mast-arm' 5 can be adjusted Jforward, which will move the drag-bar and regulate the depth at' -connection with the mast-arm and a spring connection with the mainframe, a cam pivotally supported by the link and made adjustable in connection therewith and bearing against the mast-arm.
2. In acultivator, the combination ot' a main frame, a drag-bar pivotall y supported thereby, a mast-arm pivotally supported at one end by the main frame, a connection between the mast-arm and drag-bar, a link having a pivotal connection with the mast -a'rm and a spring connection with the main frame, the link formed with a toothed segment, a lever having a pivotal connection with the link and provided with a dog for engagement with the toothed segment, and a cam supported by the link and bearing against the mast-arm.
