Description

@nitxh giants igateut @ffi Letters Patent No. 76,162, dated M'arch 31, 1868.
IMPROVED TUG-BUGKLE.
@111: .gdgrhulr mane in in flgrse itrttrrs i lntent mm uniting part at 1112 same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. COLE, of Hudson, in the county of Len-awee, and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tug-Buckles; and do hereby declare that the following is a full,'clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, A represents a metallic plate, provided with loops, B B, on opposite sides thereof, and a loop, C, at one end, through which the harness-tug is designed to pass before being hooked or buckled. The end of the plate A is bent or curved, so that the loop 0 just rests on the outside of the harness-tug, and thereby serves to hold said tug in its place, close to the face of said plate.
At the end opposite the loop 0, the plate A is provided with jaws or projections, D 1), through the ends of which is screwed a. bolt, F, thereby forming a loop, into which may be sewed the strap, attaching it to the hames. Should'the bolt F break, another may be readily put in its place, and, without ripping the straps of the harness apart, the buckle may be again fastened thereto, thereby saving much time and trouble, both in mending the buckle, and attaching it to the harness.
A metallic-sleeve may be sewed or secured between the leather at the end of the strap, connecting or fastening the buckle to the hames of the harness, which will prevent the leather from 'wearing out at that part or place from the working of thebuckle, and the buckle above described would thenbecome adjustable by means of the bolt F..
Projecting from the side or face of the plate A are tongues or hooks, w x, a little longer than the thickness of the harness-tug, and, at a very slight angle forward, so that, when the tug is attached by means of the tongues passing through spitable holes therefor, the draught will cause the said tug to hug or lie close to the face of the plate A. v i V Having thus fully described my invention, what]: claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The plate A, as constructed in combination with a bolt, F, made adjustable, as described, substantially as and for the purpose herein fully set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 2d day of January, 1868.
- GEORGE P. COLE.
