The invention has for an object to provide a `construction wherein the clock-movementy may be supported by a depending cleat at the .back of' the case and a very light material` used for said back, as no weight is carriedl thereby.
AA further object of the invention is to provide an improved method of introducing and holding theI glass portions of the case in position and also for connecting the base and cap of the case to the vertical posts comprising the angles thereof. j
Other vand further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafterset forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.

The letter A designates the base of the case, which may be of any desired construction or configuration, preferably provided with aback Vpart A and carrying upon a portion thereof a level A2, and at the top of the case a cap-section B is provided and ornamented in any desired manner-for instance, as herein illustratedwhich section as formed is the heaviest part of the case and has secured thereto a hanger-plate B. Depending from this cap B is a cleat or board B2, rigidly secured thereto Serial No. 161,044. (No model.)
. and adapted to support the clock-movement in proper position opposite the dial-opening. rEhe base and cap are connected together at the front by means of vertical posts C, which are provided upon two of their faces' with grooves C', adapted to receive the glass side panels O2 and the front panels O3, as shown in i Fig. 4. The rear posts Cat are slotted, as at C5, .and the glass panels just mentioned are passed through these slots and seated in the grooves C.- The lower endsof the side panels are held in position by means of a grooved'block C, while the. upper end thereof isiitted into a similar block O7. As shown in the drawings, two side panels C2 are used, andthe grooved blocks are duplicated ateach side of the case. The rear posts O'1 are secured to the cap B at their upper ends by means of .screws O8, while the lower ends thereof are similarly secured to the base A by securing devices O9. The front posts O are secured to the cap B by means of vscrews D extending through ar recess D .in the cap and entering the upper ends of the posts, while they lower ends ,of the posts are connected to the base by means of screws D? entering the hase and eX- tending through aslot D3, by which ythe front panel of glass is introduced. The outer end of thisscrew passes through a plate Dupon the under face of the base A. The glass panel just mentioned may be held in.. position by any desired means'for instance, the pivoted turn-button D5, adapted to swing across the under face of the slot D3 in. the base.
, For lthepurpose of forming the clock-case with. a minimum` of weight the usual heavy .back .isr omitted, and the back panel E,o,f,;,any .suitable light materialfor instance, cardboard-is secured to the rearpostsO by means of screws-E or other suitable fastenings, these screws also forming the pivots for the turnbuttons E2, by which the side panels when introduced into the case are retained in position. The face of the case is provided adjacent to the dial-opening with a series of metallic sectors F, by which the circular opening is provided for the dial, these sectors being held in position by the upper portion of the groove O in the front post O and by the grooved cross-bar F, extending between these front posts and adapted to receive the sectors upon its upper face and the upper end of the panel C upon its under face, Fig. l.
It will be seen that a clock-case constructed in accordance with this invention provides a case having a minimum of weight and one which can be readily assembled for use and taken apart for transportation, while the depending' cleat from the cap of lthe case provides a rigid support directly connected to the wall-support for the case, by which the clockmovementis firmly held in position and against vibration. It will also be seen that the glass panels at the sides and the front of the clock are capable of convenient removal whenever necessary for repair or when it is desired to obtain access to the clock-movement from either side or the front thereof. It will thus be seen that the clock-case can be manufactured at a minimum of cost and presents a most eiiicient construction not requiring skilled workmanship.
It will be obvious thatchan'ges may be made in the details of construction and configuration without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claims.
Having described my invention and set'forth its merits, what I claim, and'desire to secure lby lLetters Patent, is-
l. In a clock-case,v a base, a cap, posts connecting said base and cap, a depending centrally-disposed cleat secured solely to the rear of said cap, a separate back panel secured to the rear posts of said case and independent of said cleat, and means carried by the front posts for supporting a dial opposite said cleat.
2. In a clock-case, a base, a cap, parallel `front posts connecting said base and cap and having grooved faces at an angle to each other, parallel slotted rear posts in alinement with the front posts, a back panel carried by said rear posts, a removable fro'ntpanel mounted in the opposite grooves in said front posts, side panels adapted to pass through the slotted rear posts and seat in grooves formed in the front posts, and means carried by the rear posts to prevent removal of said panels.
3. In a clock-case, a longitudinally-slotted base, a cap, connecting front posts extending between the base and cap, and having grooved faces in alinement with the ends of the.slot in the base, slotted rear posts in alinement with the front posts, an independent back panel at the rear of said case, a removable front panel adapted for introduction through the slotted base into the grooves in the front posts, means carried by the under face of the base for securing said panel against removal, side panels adapted to pass through the slotted rear posts and seat in the grooves upon the rear faces of the front posts, and means carried by the rear posts to prevent removal of said side panels.
4. Inaclock-case, a slotted base, acap therefor, connecting-posts extending between the base and the cap, the front posts being' grooved and the rear posts slotted, a depending' cleat from said cap, a separate back panel at the rear of said case, removable front and side panels adapted to pass through the slotted rear posts and seat in grooves formed in the .front posts of the case, means carried by the rear posts and the base of the case to prevent removal of said panels, securing screws extending through the cap and base and entering the opposite ends of each front post, a grooved cross-bar extending between said front posts in alinement with the slot in the base, and segmental sectors seated in grooves in said posts and Lipper face of the cross-bar to form a dialopening.
5. In a clock-case, a base having a slot at its front portion, a cap, slotted rear posts connecting said cap and base and secured thereto, front posts provided with grooves at right angles to each other and secured to the said cap and base, a front panel adapted to enter one of the grooves in said front posts, a turnbutton -upon the base to hold said panel in place, side panels adapted to pass through the rear posts and enter grooves in said front posts, a back panel secured to said rear posts, turn-buttons provided upon said back panel for retaining said side panels in position, a depending cleat from said cap, a grooved crossbar extending between the front posts to receive the upper end of the front panel, a sectional dial-frame secured by grooves in the front posts and the upper face of said crossbar, and a hanger secured to said depending cleat.
