PATENT OFFICE.
RULE-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 760,453, dated May 24, 1904.
Application filed August 29, 1902. Serial No. 121,488- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT F. HILER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rule-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in rule-cases, its object being to provide a case in which the diiferent lengths of rules are kept separate and in position for convenient use.
To this end my invention consists in the features of construction and combination hereinafter described and claimed.
The accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, shows a plan view of my improved rule-case.
A represents the framework of the case, pro- Vided with a central transverse partition 2. In the space upon one side of the partition 2 are arranged the longitudinal partition-walls 3, 4:, and 5. Within the spaces formed by the walls 3, 4, and 5 and the side walls of the case are the cross partitionwalls constituting pockets of gradually-increasing size extending from the main partition-wall 2 to the end wall of the case. It will be noted that the pockets between the partition-walls 3 and4: correspond with the pockets between the par tition-wall 5 and the adjacent side Wall of the case, and the pockets between the partitionwalls I and 5 correspond with the pockets between the partition-wall 3 and the adjacent side wall of the case. For convenience in description I have designated the spaces be tween the partition-walls 3, 4, and 5 and the side walls as B, C, D, and E. It will be noted that the pockets of the spaces 13 and D are proportioned in size to follow after the poohets of the spaces 0 and E.
Upon the opposite side of the partition-wall 2 are arranged the longitudinal Walls 7 8, and 9, separated by partition- Walls 10, 11, 12,
of the pockets.
and 13. The partition-walls 7 and 8 are arranged at an angle with each other, so that the pockets constituted by the partitions 12 and 11 follow, respectively, after those con stituted by the partitions 13. The pockets formed by the partitions 10 are for mitered corners.
In use the rules held in the pockets of the spaces B, (J, D, and E are placed transversely of the pockets. The longer rules, which are held. in the pockets upon the opposite side of the trans verse wall 2, are placed longitudinally The smaller pockets, as shown, are arranged in duplicate to accommodate in separate and adjacent spaces the fullline and dot-line rules.
What I claim as new is the arrangement of pockets B, G, I), and E for dot and full line rules.
I do not make any claim to the arrangement of pockets upon the opposite side of the partition.
I claim A printers rule-case provided with a central transverse wall, longitudinal partition-walls upon one side of said transverse wall constituting a series of compartments, transverse partition-walls in said compartments constituting pockets of gradually-increasing sizes beginning with the pockets adjacent to the main transverse wall, the pockets oi. the alternate compartments corresponding in size and position, and horizontal and transverse partition-walls upon the opposite side of the main transverse partition constituting pockets of gradually-increasing sizes.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT F. HILER.
