Description

- STREET OAR STEP REGISTER.
APPLICATION FILED JAN. 29, 1 904. 110 MODEL.
THE NORRIS PETERS co PHQTO-LITHUN'WASMMGTON, 0v 0.
UNITED STATES Patented May 17, 1904.
LUTHER WAMPLER, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
STREET-CAR STEP-REGISTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 760,166, dated May 17, 1904.
. Application filed January 29, 1904.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LUTHER WAMPLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Street-Car Step-Registers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a device for registering the number of passengers getting on and off a street-car, the same to be attached to the step of the car, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a cross-sectional plan view of the end of a street-car, showing my invention attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a side sectional View of the end of a car, showing my invention as attached to the step of the car and means of connecting with a register.
Numerals of reference designatelike parts throughout both views, in which The numeral 1 is the car-step. 2 is a cutout portion or recess formed in the step, in which is seated the registering-step 3, resting on the springs 1 at either end of the same. Extending downwardly from the spring-actuated step 3 are the rods 5, passing through the boxes 5 and secured at the bottom by a nut. Near the center of the step 3 is a downwardlyextending lug or rod 6, its lower end pivotally attached to an operating-rod 7 this latter being pivoted to the under side of the platform at 7 Extending upward at right angles with the rod 7 is the operating-rod 8, secured at its lower end to said rod 7 and hav- Serial No. 191,143. (No model.)
ing its upper end connected with the rod or strap operating an ordinary register placed inside the body of the car.
9 represents the guard or end of the car.
A passenger on stepping on or off the car will be obliged to press the registering-step 3 into the recess 2, thus pushing down on one end of the rod 7 and up on the other end, which operates the rod 8, attached to a registering rod or strap inside the car, the latter being attached to an ordinary register.
By means of this device there will be a doublecheck on the conductor, as each passenger getting on or off the car will be registered separately from the fare-register.
Having thus shown and described my invention, what I claim as new. and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with a car-body, of a pair of standards extending below the same having laterally-extending flanges thereon, a step mounted upon said flanges having a cut-out portion therein, socket members secured to said step below the same, spring actuated means mounted for registration within said sockets, an auxiliary step carried within the cut-out portion of the first-named step and secured to said reciprocating means, a pivotallymounted link secured to said auxiliary step, a rod pivotally secured to said link adapted to operate a register, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LUTHER WAMPLER.
