CUTTING AND TRIMMING MACHINE. APPLICATION FILED AUG. 1a,19o3.
UNITED STATES Patented April 12, 1904.
PATENT QEEIQE.
CUTTING AND TRIIVIMING MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 757,228, dated April 12, 1904.
Application filed August 18, 1903.
T0 to whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT E. RoENIeK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilkinsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cutting and Trimming Machines, of which improvement the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cutting and trimming machines, and more particularly to that class which are employed to cut window-blind material and the like.
The object of my inventionis to provide a cutting-machine upon which may be placed any desired amount of material, said material being so placed that the same may be readily fed out and cut off at the desired size.
Another object of my invention is to provide acutting-machine whereby the width of the material to be cut may be gaged, novel means being provided upon the machine whereby a plurality of creases may be made in the material and the same cut as desired.
Briefly described, the invention comprises a platform having a casing mounted thereon in which is mounted a roll adapted to carry the material. Upon the platform I provide longitudinal guides and horizontal guides, whereby the material can be held in place, and upon these guides I provide scales whereby the material may be cut to any desired size.
The invention finally consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved machine. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is an end view. Fig. 4 is adetail view of one of the buttons carried within the guides.
In the accompanying drawings, the reference-numeral 1 indicates a suitable base which carries an enlarged portion 2 at its one end,
and to this enlarged portion 2 is hinged, as in- Serial No. 169,870. (No model.)
dicated at 3, the casing 4:. This casing is longitudinal in shape and carries the guides 5, upon which rest the bearings 6. These bearings are notched, as indicated at 7, to receive the roller 8, upon which the curtain material 9 is placed. One side of the casing is cut away, as indicated at 10, whereby the material may pass under the casing and out upon the platform or base, as indicated at 11.
Upon the enlarged portion 2, as indicated at 12, I provide the scales 14, and upon the base of the machine I provide the longitudinal guides 15, having a scale 16 thereon, these guides being held upon the platform by pins or screws 17, which engage in the holes 18, whereby the scale or guides may be adjusted laterally, so that the material may be cut to any desired width. Adjacent to the holes 18 I provide a scale 19. Upon the sides of the platform I provide the guides 20, which are slotted, as indicated at 21 22, and in said slots 21 is carried the button 23, having the enlarged portions 24 thereon, whereby the button is rotated. The enlarged portions will en gage the sides of the slot and be firmly held in position. Upon the shank 25 of these buttons I provide a bearing 26, to which is secured the yoke 27, these yokes being adapted to lie across the top of the platform and prevent the material from becoming ruffled or curled up.
On the outer end of the shanks 25 I provide the operating-buttons 28, whereby the buttons 23 may be rotated and the yokes 27 moved along the platform to any desired position.
The operation of my improved machine is as follows: The material to be out having been placed upon the roll 8 within the casing and the outer end thereof fed under the casing, as indicated at 10, the end of the material is bent over upon the scale 15 to form a hem of any desired width, according to whichever of the scales is used. This hem for the curtain material as cut is adapted to be sewed and the ordinary curtain-rod placed therein. This operation of forming the hem is accomplished on the scale 12, either by bending the material over thereon or bending the same up against the side of the box, as indicated at 28..
This operation having been performed, the material is drawn out to the desired length, as indicated by scale 16, carried by the longitudinal guides 15, when the same may be cut in any desired length. The yokes 27, as heretofore stated, will prevent the material from leaving the board and will hold the same firmly while it is being out.
While I have herein shown and described a practical embodiment of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A cutting-machine comprising a base having a casing pivotally secured to its one end, longitudinal guides carried upon said .base, guides carried within said casing and adapted to support aroll, yokes carried within guides upon the sides of the base and adapted to be adjusted, suitable scales arranged upon the guides mounted upon the casing, substantially as described.
2. A cutting-machine comprising a base having a casing pivotally secured to its one end, guides carried within said casing and adapted to support a roll, adjustable longitudinal guides carried upon the base and having a scale arranged thereon, and adjustable horizontal guides secured to the sides of the base, substantially as described.
3. A cutting-machine comprising a base having a casing pivotally secured to its one end, guides mounted within said casing, bearings supported upon said guides, a roll rotatably mounted upon said bearings, adjustable longitudinal guides carried upon the base and having a scale arranged thereon, and adjustable horizontal guides secured to the sides of the base, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT E. ROENIGK.
