UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMILIO MAGALDI, OF LA BRICHE SAINT DENIS, FRANCE.
BELT-CHAIN.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 756,866, dated April 12, 1904.
Application filed. May 8, 1902, Serial No. 106,460. (No model.)-
To all whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMILIO MAGALDI, manufacturer, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at 2 Rue Coquenard, La Briche Saint Denis, Seine, France, (whose post-office address is as above,) have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in BeltChains, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, and for which I have applied for Letters Patent in France, (certificat daddition au brevet du 30 April, 1901, No. 310,401.)
This invention relates to a special construction of the cross-bolts which form part of the belt-chain described and claimed in my former patent, No. 680,159, dated August 6, 1901.
According to the present invention the transverse metallic rods or cross-bolts which unite the strips of leather and which form the links of the chain between the two similar groups or sets of thongs are slightly arched in the transverse direction of the belt. This shape of the cross-piece is shown on Figure 1 of the annexed drawings, which shows a crosssection of a belt-chain fitted with such cross pieces or pins. Fig. 2 shows in the same position the metallic pin considered separately, as also the washers or collars which are secured thereon. Fig. 3 shows a plan view of the beltchain.
As will be seen from Figs. 1 and 2, the metallic rod A 'A A is slightly arched in the direction which is transverse of the belt, and the central portion A, forming the chain, is provided at each of its ends with a shoulder to the parts A A, upon which latter are slipped and secured the leather strips B. Small washers C C areshrunk, driven, or forced upon the parts A A, so as to compress and hold the mass of the leather strips. The rod or cross-piece A A A is riveted at its ends over exterior washers or collars C. The extremities A A are preferably tapered down from the shoulder to the riveted end, as shown. The collars or washers C are preferably dished, as will be clearly seen in the sectional views.
It is to be noted that the parts A and A A of the rod may be of any desired sectionround, square, elliptical, polygonal, &c. Nevertheless both part A and the parts A A may be of different sections.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as such, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination, an arched cross-piece having an enlarged central portion and reduced side portions having annular shoulders, washers abutting against said shoulders, washers secured at the outer ends of said cross-piece, and strips of flexible material clamped between said washers, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMILIO MAGALDI.
