PATENT OFFICE.
BOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 756,754, dated April 5, 1904.
Application filed July 7, 1903. Serial No. 164,542. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY WHITMORE l/VHITE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Boiler, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to boilers, and more particularly to a type of boiler adapted for use in connection with waste gases from which it is desired to extract the maximum amount of heat economically.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which the figure shows a section of a boiler embodying my invention.
A tubular casing 1, of brickwork, is provided with metallic bands 2 and with doorways 3, having doors 4 for closing the same, these doors being provided with handles 5. Aconical top 6 is mounted upon the brickwork and secured thereto by means of fastenings 7. A passage 8 is provided with a door 9 and is disposed in alinement with the lower door 3 for the purpose of allowing access to the lower portion of the fire-space in order to facilitate the removal of ashes and cinders. An archway 10 and an annular portion 11 are provided for the masonry 13, which supports the head 14: of the boiler.
Mounted upon the masonry 13 are brackets 15, preferably of cast-iron, for'the purpose of forming an additional support for the boiler. A cylindrical section 16, of metal, is enlarged at its bottom, as shown. A number of large cylindrical sections 17 17 a 17 b 1'7 are connected together by means of rivets 17 thus an opening 20.
Mounted upon the section 16 is a section 22, and mounted upon this section 22 is a section 23, to which is rigidly connected a cap 24,
these parts constituting the inner shell of the boiler. Extending radially from the inner shell to the outer shell are a number of short flues 25. The sections 17 17 17 17 are secured rigidly together by means of rivets 26 27. An inspirator-pipe is shown at 28 and a steampipe at 29, the steam-pipe being connected with a union 30, mounted upon the highest part of the steam-dome. The blazes and gases of combustion pass through the space 31 up into the inner shell, thence proceed radially through several flues 25, so as to pass upward around the outer shell and out through the conical top 6. The weight of the boiler resting upon the annular head 14 tends to strengthen the same, whereas the brace-rods 18 strengthen the head 19.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In aboiler, the combination of inner and outer shells, and a head connecting said shells together, said head having a rotund portion free to rest upon a resisting-surface, thereby enabling the plate of the boiler to strengthen said head. y
2. In a boiler, the combination of a firespace, a boiler-shell located thereover, a passageway leading to said fire-space for allowing the removal of ashes therefrom, and a casing sur- Y rounding said fire-space and said boiler-shell, said casing being provided with a doorway disposed in alinement with said passage-way for the purpose of rendering said passage-way accessible from the outside of said casing.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CARI. C. SEEGER, FREDERICK ANDRES RAMsnR.
