Be it known that I, CHARLES M. WILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Trolleys, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which*- Figure l is a side elevational View of my improved trolley supported in its fork or harp and shown as resting against the ordinary trolley-wire. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, the trolley-wire being omitted. is a sectional view on line 3 3, Fig. 2; and Fig. I is a fragmentarysectional view on line 44, Fig. l. y
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in trolleys, the object being'to so construct the trolley that should the trolley accidentally or otherwise leave the wire it may be quickly restored and the wire brought to the main trolley-wire groove.
lVith this object in view the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, l indicates an ordinary trolley fork or harp, in the upper end of which A is arranged a spindle 2, carrying the trolley 3, the spindle 2 being held in place by the cotterpins 2".

The trolley 3 is provided with a main trolley-wire groove a and on each side thereof for carrying out the object of my invention with two or more sets of double helical ways c and c, which enter the main groove a at diametrically opposite points-that is to say, the groove ZJ, starting at the point marked b, terminates in the main trolley-groove a at the point marked b, while the groove c, starting at the point marked c', a point diametrically opposite the point b', terminates in the main trolley-groove a at a point c diametrically opposite the point 6"'. By this construction should the trolley-wire slip the main groove a and drop into the groove I) at its starting-point wire to the groove a.

Should, however, the trolleywire drop into the groove at any intermediate point, it takes but a corresponding part of a revolution of the trolley to return the trolley- Should the trolley-wire, slipping from the main groove a, 'alight in the groove c at a point nearest the starting-point b' otgroove Z, it then takes but a half-revolution of the trolley to bring the wire to the main groove a, and should the trolley-Wire drop into the groove c at any other point it takes but a corresponding part of a half-revolution of the trolley to return the wire to the main groove. In case the trolley entirely leaves the wire in rounding a curve or otherwise or is removed for any reason by its construction a broader surface to the trolley-Wire is presented, thereby insuring a great saving of time and trouble in restoring the trolley to the wire, as is obvious. It -is essential that the grooves c on one side of the main trolley-groove a be of an opposite pitch to that of the grooves b c on the other side of groove a, -so that should said grooves on either side of the groove a engage the trolley-wire they will always tend to draw the trolley-wire to the center-that is to say,
to the maingroove a.
I am aware that minor changes in the arrangement, construction, and combination of the several parts of my trolley may be made and-substituted for those herein shown and described without in the least departing from the nature and principle of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A trolley, the saine being provided with a main trolley-wire groove and double helical ways on each side of and entering said main groove; substantially as described.4
2. A trolley, the same being provided with a main trolley-wire groove and double helical Ways on each side of and entering said InainA groove at diametrically opposite points; substantially as described.
3. A trolley, the same being provided with IOO a main trolley-wire groove and double helical ways on each side ofV and entering said main groove at diametrically opposite points, said double helical ways also starting at points diametrically opposite; substantially as described.
4. A trolley, the same being provided with a main trolley-wire groove and double helical ways on each side of and entering said main groove at diametrically opposite points, the pitch of said ways on one side of said main groove being the reverse of that of said ways on the other side of said main groove; substantially as described.
5. The combination with a trolley harp or fork, of a trolley provided with a main trolleywire groove and double helical ways on each side of and entering said main trolley-wire groove; substantially as described.
6. The combination with a trolley harp or fork, of a trolley provided with a main trolleywire groove and double helical ways on each side of and entering said main groove at diametrically opposite points; substantially as described.
7. The combination with a trolley harp or fork, of a trolley provided with a main trolley- Wire groove and double helical ways on each side of and entering said main groove at diametrically opposite points, said ways also starting at points diametrically opposite; substantially as described.
8. The combination with a trolley harp or fork, of a trolley provided with a main trolleywire groove and double helical ways on each side of and entering said main groove at diametrically opposite points, the pitch of said ways on one side of said main groove being the reverse of that of said ways on the other side of said main groove; substantially as described.
9. The combination with a trolley harp or fork, of a spindle, Cotter-pins holding said spindle in place, and a trolley mounted on said spindle and provided with a main trolleywire groove and two or more helical ways on Veach side of'and entering said main groove;
