: NORRE vzrzm no man: u no WASNINGTON u c UNITED STATES Patented March 22, 1904.
CONRAD PAUL, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
ACCOUNT-REGISTER AND DESK-SLIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 755,387, dated March 22, 1904.
Application filed August 7, 1902.
T0 on whom it warty concern:
Be it known that I, CONRAD PAUL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Account-Registers and Desk-Slides, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in desk-slides.
The object of the present invention is to provide a slide a portion of the ends of which is upturned, thereby retaining a paper pad.
A further object of the invention is to provide a slide which is attractive in appearance and one that will be easily handled in order to keep the accounts of the several purchasers.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification and wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughoutboth views, in which- Figure l is a view in perspective of the present invention, showing a paper pad secured thereto. Fig. 2 is afragmentary view in perspective with the pad removed.
In the drawings the reference-numeral 1 indicates a slide, said slide having upturned end flanges 2, adapted to retain a number of sheets of paper or a pad, as is desired. At the forward end of the slide I form an integral lug 3, which lug is arranged in a plane parallel to the slide and on which may be placed an indicating numeral or figure. The rear flange 2 is formed by slitting the rear portion of the slide at points adjacent to its opposite edges and bending that portion of the slide lying, therebetween upwardly and forwardly. That portion of the slide lying on the outer sides of the slits forms extensions which are adapted to abut against the interior of the desk in which the slides are mounted. This construction prevents the rear flange from abutting, and thus Serial No. 118,798. (No model.)
protecting the same against any sudden shocks which would tend to loosen the paper engaged thereby. The forward flange is formed in a similar manner and one of the extensions formed incident to the formation of the flange is removed, but the other constitutes the lug 3, which, as heretofore stated, is adapted to receive a suitable indicating character.
In Fig. 2 it Will be observed that in lieu of the single upturned flange as employed in construction shown in Fig. 1 I construct the slide with a pair of flanges 4: 4, intermediate of which is arranged the lug 5, similar in construction to lug 3. (Shown in Fig. 1.)
In practice I employ a number of these slides, which are mounted in guides in a suitable case, and arrange the lugs of the respective slides so that they will bear a staggered relation to each other. It will therefore be obvious that the construction and arrangement of the lugs and end'flanges of each slide will slightly differ from the preceding ones.
It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
'Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A desk-slide comprising a flat body portion, having upturned end flanges, said flanges being formed by slitting the body portion at each end at points adjacent to its sides, and bending the portion lying therebetween.
2. A desk-slide comprising a flat body portion, flanges secured to the body portion at its opposite ends, a lug formed integral with the forward end of the said body portion, and eX- tensions formed integral with bodyportion and projecting in the rear of the rear flange of the slide, substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CONRAD PAUL.
Witnesses: H. (J. EVERT, E. E. POTTER.
