'TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, B. W. DAVIS, of Fort Madison, in the county of Lee, and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Horse-Rake; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification. i l
This invention relates to a new and improved device for'connecting the shafts to the handle of the ordinary rotating horse-rakes, whereby the same are connected in a more simple, convenient, and durable manner. 1
It consists in a bent'metallic band or stirrup-around each shaft, and secured tothe handle in such way that the saidvband is adjustable. In the accompanying plate ofl drawingsl Figure 1 is a side view of a'horse-rake with my invention in position thereon.
V'Figure 2 is a plan view of the same. l

To the handle, C, of any rotating horse-rake D, is secured a bent metallic band orstirrup, A. Said band .A is bent around the shaft B,'so as to form a'loop, within which a slight play-is given to the shaft B, and is secured Vto the handle C at any convenient point by a screw or bolt passing through a hole or slot in both parts of the said band A, which areunited for that purpose, and through the handle C, as shown. The band A is provided with a slot or three or more holes through both parts ofthe same, where said band is secured to the handle C, by means of which the length of thesaid band may be varied at the'pleasure of the operator.
The band A may be of any convenient size, according to the strength required, one of said bands being 4 around each of the shafts B, and secured to the handle C at each side of the same, as shown, by means of which any desired elevation may be given to the rake, thereby relieving the operator from holding or carrying any weight' in order to keep the forward end of the teethof the rake on the ground.
Having described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A band or stirrup, A, for connecting the shaft B to the handle C of any rotating horse-rake-D, furnished with the slot or holes a, substantially as shown and described, and. for the purposes set forth.
B. W. DAVIS.
