SYLVESTER S. MISHLER, OF DAVID CITY, NEBRASKA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO MANNA KELLER, OF OCTAVIA, NEBRASKA.
QONCAVE FOR THRESHI'NG-MACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 55,152, dated'March 22, 1904.
' Application filed. April 4,1908. Serial No. 151,119. (No model.)
a citizen of the United States, residing at David- City, in the county of Butler and State of Ne braska, have invented a new and useful Concave for Threshing-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to threshing-machines, and more particularly to an improved construction of concave, the object being to provide a reversible concave which can be reversed or changed without removing the said concave or any of its parts from the machine.
With this object in view the invention consists in constructing the concave from a series of sections, each section being concave upon both faces and provided with teeth or spikes, the edges of each section being slotted to permit the grain to drop therethrough.
The invention consists also in providing certain locking devices for locking the sections after they have been properly adjusted.
The invention consists also in certain details of construction and novelties of combination, all of which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims. V
In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of a concave constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view. Fig. A is a detail perspective view showing a portion of one of the sections of the concave. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of one of the locking-plates.
In constructing a concave in accordance with my invention I employ a plurality of its upper and lower faces, as shown at A, and one concave upper face is provided with a series of teeth or spikes A and the opposite edges of each section are provided with a series of slots A said slots being provided for the purpose of permitting the grain to drop through the concave. Each section is supported upon a bar B, which passes longitudinally through the section, the ends of said bars being journaled in the curved plates O,
secured upon the interior of the casing of the 5 machine. The bars B extend through the curved plates and through both sides of the casing, as shown at B, said extended ends being polygonal in cross-section, and fitting upon said extended ends are the locking-plates D, each plate having a polygonal-shaped opening D, and the ends are serrated or notched, as
at D the serrations or notches of one plate engaging the serrations or notches of the next adjacent plate, so that the entire series of 06 plates are locked together, thereby holding the sections of the concave locked. Inasmuch as the sections of the concave are reversible, any one or more sections can be quickly and easily reversed by sliding the locking-plate 5 outwardly upon the extended end of the bar and then turning the said bar one-half around, such one-half rotation serving to bring up the other face of the concave-section, and after the said section has been adjusted the lock- 7 ing-plate is pushed back to its proper position, and the concave-section is then securely locked.
It .will thus be seen that I provide an exceedingly cheap, simple, and efficient construction of concave for threshing-machines and one which can be quickly and easily reversed without removing any portion thereof from the machine and one which can be either partially or totally reversed, inasmuch as the said concave is made of similar sections.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is sections A, each section being concaved upon 4 1. A concave for threshing-machines comprising a plurality of similar sections, each section being reversible and provided with teeth or spikes and having its edges slotted, as set forth.
2. A concave for threshing-machines com- 9 prising a plurality of sections, each section being reversible and having its upper and lower face concaved, one of said faces being provided with teeth or spikes, the edges of each section being provided With a series of slots, the bars for supporting the sections, the bearing-plates in Which the bars are journaled, and the locking-plates carried upon the extended ends of the bars, said locking-plates being adapted to engage one another, substantially as set forth.
SYLVESTER S. MISHLER.
