PORTABLE DARK ROOM- SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 754,659, dated March 15, 1904.
Application filed September 18, 1903. Serial No. 173,738. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILBER H. LEVEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVoodstock, in the county of McHenry and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Dark Rooms, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a case in which dry-plates may be carried and transferred to and from plate-holders.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved case in use. Fig. 2 is an isometrical representation of the case in its folded condition. Fig. 3 is an isometrical representation of the case with the front open. Fig. 4 is an isometrical representation of the case as seen from the rear, the hood portion being removed. Fig. 5 is a transverse section of the case with both doors closed. Fig. 6 is a section on dotted line a, Fig. 5.
The case is of rectangular outline, and comprises the bottom 1, top 2, and ends 3 permanently joined together. A shelf 4 is located in the upper part of the case, and a vertical wall 5 connects the shelf with the top of the case. A partition 6 is located between the shelf and the bottom of the case and is set in some distance from the front of the case. A series of holes 7 extend through the shelf between the wall 5 and partition 6. A ruby glass 8 is located over an opening in the partition 6. The door 9 to the front of the case has a hinge connection therewith, and the walls of the case are rabbeted to receive the door in order that it may be located flush with the outer surface of the case. The shelf 4 extends short of the back of the case in order that the hood 10, connected to the Walls of the case, may be folded within the case when not in use. A door 11 has a hinge connection with the back of the case and is seated in the rabbeted edge of the case. A partition 12, having openings 13, is
located between the upper face of the shelf and the top of the case, and a deflecting-plate 14: is located over the openings 13, but extends short of the ends of the case, leaving spaces '15. When in use, the door is opened, and air can gain access to the interior of the case through the openings 7, 13, and 15. -At the same time light will be excluded.
In use the case rests upon atable, and both doors 9 and 11 are opened. The hood 10 is placed over the head, arms,,and body portion of the operator and is gathered in at the bottom, as shown at Fig. 1. The dry-plates are contained in boxes supported by the shelf 4. Light being admitted through the ruby glass and the hands of the operator being free, he can take the exposed plates from the plateholders and place new plates therein, the lower portion of the case giving him ample room to do the work.
By the use of my improved case a quantity of dry-plates can be carried and means provided whereby the operators can change the plates in his plate-holders without going to a dark room.
I claim as my invention In a portable dark room, the combination of an outer casing having open sides, a hood having one end secured within one open side of the casing and capable of being folded with the casing, a door for that side of the casing, a main vertical partition supporting a ruby glass, a door inclosing said partition, a short vertical partition outside of the main vertical partition leaving a space between them, said main vertical partition having an opening through its upper end, a horizontal partition and a deflecting-plate located above the horizontal partition inside of the main vertical partition having its ends stopping short of the end of the casing.
