WALTER C. MCCREADY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
WINDOW-CABINET.
Application filed January 13, 1908.
'1.'0 (LLL 'whom et may concern:
Be it known that I, vWALTER C. MCCREADY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vindow-Cabinets, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to improvements in window cabinets and consists of the novel arrangement, construction and combination of parts as will be fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to construct a cabinet hingedly mounted to the window casing and arranged to be supported in front of the casing, the door of the cabinet being controlled by the manipulation of the window sash.
A further object of my invention is to construct a cabinet in which articles are to be placed, the said cabinet being properly ventilated and to take the place of a refrigerator.
Figure 1 is a front view of my improved cabinet in its operative position in a window frame, viewing the same from the interior of the room. Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear View of the cabinet in position on the window frame. Fig. t is a perspective View of my complete cabinet, showing the same hingedly mounted upon the window frame and in a position swung away from the casing. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the same, showing it in its operative position and the manner of the hinged connection. Fig. 6 is a detail enlarged sectional view of a portion of the cabinet and the window sash showing the manner of contact between the sash and the cabinet door.
In the construction of my invention I provide a cabinet composed of a bottom 7, a rear wall 8, side walls 9, a slanted top 10 and a door 11. In the cabinet is placed a plurality of shelves 12, upon which articles may be placed.
On the one end 9 of the cabinet, I rigidly secure a pair of hinge members 13 and 14, the hinge member 13 supported by and operating in a bracket 15, connected to the side of the window casing 16, the member 11 supported by and operating in a bracket 17, securely fastened to the edge of the window sill 18. The members 13 and 14 are located in alinement so as to retain the cabinet in a perpendicular position, while the same is i Specification of Letters Patent.

being swung outwardly away from the window casing as shown in Fig. 4. The object of this arrangement is to permit the housewife to have free access to the window when desiring to clean the same.
The door 11 is mounted upon the spring hinges 19, the said springs being so arranged as to normally hold the door 11 in an upright or open position as shown in Fig. 1, and by the dotted lines in Fig. 2, and the limit of the raised position of the said door is governed by the stop 20.
The door may preferably be provided with panels and between said panels on the outside of the door is fastened a strip of some suitable material, against which is designed to contact a roller 22 carried in the bracket 23 secured to the bottoni rail 24 of the window sash 25, and the object of said roller is to keep the door 11 in a closed position when the cabinet is in its locked normal position against the front of the window frame.
The cabinet is held in a locked position against the front of the window casing by means of the bolt 26, communicating with the socket 27, formed in the sill. The bolt, which is provided with a knob 26, is in such position that, when the window-sash is down, its knob will be directly beneath the roller 22, whereby release of the bolt from the socket is prevented.
The walls of the cabinet are properly provided with vent openings through which air may circulate and keep the victuals in the cabinet in fresh condition.
The operation of my invention is as follows: After the cabinet has been properly hinged in position against the window casing and locked by the bolt 26, by raising the lower window sash, the roller 22 gradually ascending, the door 11 will be permitted to automatically open, assuming a position as shown in Fig. 1 and by dotted lines in Fig. 2. The sash at this period being sufficiently open, access can be readily had to the contents located in the cabinet and the door of the cabinet is automatically closed by the lowering of the window sash.
Having fully described my invention what I claim is:
1. The combination, with a window-casing and a window, of a cabinet having an upwardly opening door on its front side, spring mechanism for automatically opening sai door and holding it in raised position, the cabinet being hinged to the window-casing,
door in an elevated position, and a roller carried by the Window sash adapted to contact With the door and retain it in a closed l5- position, substantially as specilied.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
