Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. MAoNnss, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Spartanburg, in the county of Spartanburg and State of South Carolina,'have made certain new and useful Improvements in Cracker- Oases, of which the following is aspecification.

My invention is an improvement in crackercases or casesfor holding boxes of crackers; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as

longitudinal section thereof.

By my invention I provide in a case of the character shown a framing provided with guides in which slide the shelves for supportingthe cracker-boxes, so the shelves can be adjusted out of the frame to permit access to the boxes and can be adjusted back in their guides to carry the cracker-boxes into the frame when it is desired to store the same. In connection -with the sliding box-supporting shelves I provide lock devices for securing the shelves in their different positions and jointed links connecting the outeii ends of the sliding shelves with the casing to aid in guiding'the movements of the shelves and in supporting the same when adjusted to their ou ter positions.

In the construction shown the case A is provided with the guides B for the sliding shelves C, and has at D and at D' seats for the locking-bolts carried by the shelves, so said shelves may be locked in their inner positions, as

illustrated by the upper shelf in Fig. 2, and in their outer positions, as illustrated by the lower shelf in the same figure. To guide the shelves as they slide in and out and also to support the same when adjusted out, as shown at the top of Fig. l and at the bottom of Fig. 2, I provide the links E and F, which are jointed together at G, the link E being pivn oted at its upper end at a to the frame and abutting a stop e' to limit the outward movement of the shelf O. The link F is jointed at G to the lower end ofthe link E and at f` to the vshelf C, near the outer end of saidr shelf. When the shelves are adjusted outward, it will be understood their outer ends will be braced by the Ylinks,-which will steadyV the movements of the shelves as they are adjusted both out and in in theuse of the invention. When the shelves are adjusted out, as shown at the bottom of Fig. 2, to permit access to the cracker-box H, resting thereon, the weight of the lbox has a tendency to' cause the shelf C Ato dip at its outer end, moving' in slightly at such time, and to overcome this tendency I provide means for lock-- ing the shelf when adjusted to its outer position and also for locking the shelf whenadjusted inward to the position shown at the top in Fig. 2 in order to prevent unauthorized persons from tampering with the boxes of crackers. This is preferably accomplished by the construction shown, in which thebolts I are actuated outwardly to enter the seats D or D by means of the spring and said bolts are retracted by means of the handle-bar J, sliding in guides j and connected at its inner end by links K with the bolts I, so the bolts. can readily be retracted, as indicated in dotted lines, Fig. 3, by drawing the handle-bar J to the front. As shown, the bolts I and their springs are preferably made integral and of a suitable length of spring-wire bent to furnish the bolts I, the springs/I having the spur e" and the stud lWto facilitate connection with the links K, as will be understood from Figs. Band 4 of the drawings. When the shelves are closed, as shown at the left in Fig. 1, and it is desired to draw them outward tothe position shown at the right in said figure, it is only necessary to ble-bar J. which will release the bolts I from engagement with the case and permit the forward movement of the shelves to expose the cracker-boxes, as shown in Fig. 2. When the shelves are moved outward to the fullextent, the bolts I engage in the seats D and prevent. any retrograde movement of the pull slightly upon the hanshelves and also prevent any dipping of `the i shelves at their outer ends by theweight ofv the boxes supported thereon.

Havingthus described myinvention, what I claim as new. and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is-' -A v I1. A cracker-case substantially as herein describedomprising framing having guides for sliding shelves,- and provided with inner and outer seats for engagement with locking devices, and shelves sliding in' said guides, links jointed together at one end, oneof said inks being jointed at its outer end to the shelf and the other link being jointed at lits upper end tothe framing, a stopfor the latter link whereby to limit the outward move ment of the'slidng shelf, and locking devices 4supported onthe under side ofn the shelves and inclding sliding handle-bars, the bolts and their actuating springs, and links connecting said bolts with the sliding handle-` bars substantiallyjes set forth.

2. A cracker-case comprising the framing having guides for shelves, shelves sliding in said guides, locking devices foi-said shelves, and links for guiding and bracing said .shelves Substantially as set forth.
