To all whom it may concern.:

Be it known that I, OWEN TERRY, acitizen of the United States, residing at Tuscola, in the county of Douglas and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Folding Ooops, of which the following is a specification.

lllyinvention relates to improvements in folding coops, and pertains to a coop which is fully described in my Patent No. 588,368, dated August 17, 1897, in which the several parts are hinged together in a peculiar way,

whereby they are adapted to fold up into a very small space for transportation.

The object of my invention is to provide a folding coop adapted to be set up and to be secured by vertical members at the ends of the coop and outside of the end pieces thereof, the top of the coop having peculiar form of hinges adapting the same to be folded into a small compact bundle, and to provide interior hinged compartments for dividing the coop into two or more parts.

Referring now to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a coop embodying my invention, shown partly in section. Fig. 2 is a side view of the coopwhen folded. Fig. 3 is an end view of the coop when folded. Fig. 4 is a detail view showing the form of hinges used to the outer edge of the top. Fig. 5 is a top plan view of one end of the coop when folded for transportation. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the fastening device for holding the coop in either an upright or folded position.

Referring now to the drawings, A indicates the bottom of the coop, which is formed in two longitudinal sections a and b, hinged together through the medium of the hinges c, whereby the bottom can be longitudinally folded outward.

B are the sides, which are hinged at their lower edges to the two sections of the bottom A and adapted to fold inward.

D is the top, which consists of the two sections e and f, hinged together at their inner meeting edges and adapted to fold inward. The section fis hinged at its outer edge to the top edge of the adjacent side B through the medium of the hinges g. These hinges are of the peculiar form here shown, consisting of an intermediate leaf h,as shown,where by this section of the top can be folded backward or outward and over the ends H when they are folded back upon the sides B,to which the top is hinged, as shown in the end View, Fig. 3. The ends H are provided with the peculiar hinges e', which are fully shown and to be opposite the center brace n of the sides B. Vhen they are folded downward, however, as shown in Fig. 3, they are in a position to be inclosed against the wire of which the sides are formed and out of line with the rails of which the sides are formed, whereby they do not interfere with the close folding of the sides against the sections of the bottom, as will be readily understood and as illustrated.

The free edges of the partitions and of the sides and ends are provided with pins p, adapted to enter corresponding openings p', formed in the adjacent or abutting portions of the rails of the sides and top, whereby when the coop is set up the parts are prevented from having any swinging or lateral movements.

The coop is held in its set up position through the medium of the vertical connecting members M. One end of these connecting members, which consists of rods, is united through the medium of eyes N to the section e of the top, and the edge of the bottom is provided at opposite ends with projecting eyes P. These rods or members are provided at their free ends with a spring-catch adapted to catch in the said eyes, as clearly shown. This spring-catch consists of two hinged arms with oppositely and inwardly turned hooked ends, held together through the medium of a coil or other spring S, wrapped around them, and thus adapted to 'engage in the eyes and be held in engagement therewith and to be removed therefrom by a springing of the arms. When the coop is folded, as shown in Fig. 3, these same connecting members which are adapted to hold the coop in the'set-up position are adapted to hold it in its folded posi- IOO tion. This is accomplished through the medium of forming the members into two sections hinged at their inner ends at the points i', whereby they are adapted to fold around the folded parts of the coop and to have the hook or catches to engage in eyes V, projecting from the bottom, as shown. By this arrangement these connecting members are adapted to hold the coop in its set-up position or in its folded position, as will be readily understood from the accompanying illustrations.

For the purpose of permitting access to the coop the top is provided with one or more doors Q, hinged thereto and provided with an ordinary spring-latch R, whereby the doors may be opened for the purpose of permitting access within the coop. v

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A folding coop comprising a bottom consistin g of two longitudinal sections hinged together to fold outward, sides hinged to the outer edges of said sections and adapted to fold inward, ends hinged to the ends of one side, a top hinged to the free edge of same side consisting of two longitudinal sections hinged together to fold outward, and a partition made in two sections and hinged to the bottom and adapted to fold upon the same, substantially as described.

2. A folding coop comprisinga bottom, consisting of two longitudinal sections hinged together to fold outward, sides hinged to the outer edges of the bottom sections ends hinged to the edges of one of the sides and adapted to fold out upon the said side, a top hinged to the outer edge of the same side, the hinges adapting it to be folded out over the ends, said top also made in two longitudinal hinged sections and adapted to fold inward, a partition made in two sections of less width than the longitudinal sections of the bottom and hinged to said sections and adapted to fold down on the bottom, and a connecting linked rod for fastening the parts together, substantially as described.

3. A folding coop consisting of sectional folding parts hinged together, the bottom provided with inwardly-extending eyes, and thetop having a hinged or sectional connecting member connected to the top and adapted to fold around the folded parts and to engage` the said eyes of the bottom when folded, substantially as described.
