CURTAIN-POLE TIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 7 53,030, dated February 23, 1904.
Application filed September 8, 1903. Serial No. 172,342. (No model.)
To all whom it may cancer-m Be it known that I, GEORGE H. ArKrNs, of Torrington, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curtain-Pole Tips; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of i the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1, a side view of one end of a curtainpole having a tip constructed in accordance with my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2, a sectional view through a portion of the tip and neck thereof with my improved collar applied thereto. I
This invention relates to an improvement in curtain-pole tipsthat is, metal tips of orna mental design adapted to be applied to the ends of curtain-poles, andparticularly to such tips as are adapted to pass over the end of a pole. In tips of this character various devices have been devised to give proper support for the tip on a pole, so as to hold the tip in a horizontal position.
The object of this invention is a simple arrangement of parts, whereby sufiicient hearing will be secured upon the pole to hold the tip in a horizontal position; and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claims.
As herein shown, the tip consists of aspherical shell A; but this shell may be of any approved form. The shell is made of sheet metal and is drawn up to form a neck B. Over this neck a collar C is placed, the collar being double, the outer portion D passing over the outside of the neck B, while the portion E passes inside the neck, the internal diameter of the portion E corresponding to the diameter of the rod to which it is to be applied. The inner edge of the portion E is cut, forming points F, which are bent inward over the inner surface of the shell A, so as to interlock the collar with the neck B. This collar not only gives a bearing of sufiicient length upon the pole to properly support the tip in ahorizontal position, but the collar also reinforces the neck, so as to produce a comparatively strong article and one which can be readily formed, so that tips may be produced at very low cost for manufacture.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A curtain-pole tip comprising a metal shell formed with an outwardly-projecting cylindrical neck, a collar folded over said neck with which it corresponds in form so as to reinforce the same, the inner edge of the collar being bent outward over the inner face of said I shell, substantially as described.
2. A curtain-pole tip comprising a metal shell formed with an outwardly-proj ecting cylindrical neck, a metal collar folded over said neck with which it corresponds in form and size so as to closely fit and reinforce thesame, the inner edge of the collar formed with points which are bent outward over the inner face of said shell, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. GEORGE H. ATKINS. Witnesses:
THos. MURRAY, W. E. BARNES.
