RECEPTACLE AND ATTAcHMENT-PLUG.

Beit known that I, HUBERT KRANTZ, a citi# in the borough of Brooklyn, city of New York, county of Queens, and State of New York, have invented an Improved Receptacle and Attachment-Plug, of which the following is a'specication.

This invention has for its object to improve the construction of such receptacles as are used in electric wiring in conjunction with attachment-plugs, a further feature of my invention being the providing of said receptacle with a suitable inclosing boXin which it may be protected from injury.

In the accompanying 'drawin,g ;s, Figure 1 is a plan of my improved receptacle. Fig. 2 is plan of the inclosing box with cover and re ceptacle removed. Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view of an attachmentplug for use with this receptacle. Fig. 7 is a plan of said plug; and Fig. 8 is a plan, and Fig. 9 a side view, of the binding-post and contact-post to be used in the receptacle.

The receptacle R is formed of slate, fiber, porcelain, or other suitable insulating material. I have shown it formed of a cylindrical block. In this block are circula' main recesses 2 and additional'circular recesses 3, the additional recesses being formed in the block of greater depth than the main recesses. Each main recess is open to the adjacent additional recess. Two passages 14 are formed entirely through the block, each passage opening at its upper part into the adjacent recess 2 and in like manner to the recess 3, Fig. 5, Within each recess 2 is mounted a disky D,

constitute a contact-post fitting into the additional recess 3. The disk D may be secured by screws 6, passing from the under side` of the insulatingblock, Fig. 5, and each disk has a binding-screw S, which serves to bind a conducting-wire fw, entering through the passage 14.

An attachment-plug A, which-I prefer to use in connection with this receptacle, is shown in Figs. 6 and 7. It comprises a block of insulation having a central opening 11 for the wires which branch out at'opposite sides l into the enlarged lower end 13 of openings 12, which have also enlarged upper ends l18. The contact-posts P are tapped at their upper ends and are also provided with fixed collars 15 and washers 16. The wires arel connected up between the xed collars and washers and securely held by the tightening of screws 17, bearing on shoulders' inV the enlarged upper ends 18 of the openings l2.

I claim as my inventiond 1. A receptacle for an attachment-plug, having a main recess and an additional recess, a contact-post and an attached disk, the disk being in the main recess, and the post in the additional recess, and abinding-screw carried by the disk, and a cover-plate provided with an opening in line with the additional recess, substantially as described.

6. An attachment-receptacle, comprising an insulating-body part carrying the contacts, a metallic box therefor open at both ends, to which it is secured, said box adapted to be se-l cured to the wall, a cover for the receptacle adapted to be secured to the box, and insulated openings in the cover for the plug, substantially as described.

7. The combination of a circular box having .an outwardly-turned iange at the top and an inwardly-turned'flange at the bottom, and a circular receptacle secured therein, said receptacle having contact-posts at its upper part, a cover attached tothe outturned flange of the box and having insulated openings in line with said contact-posts, substantially as described.
