.TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CON CERN:

Be it known that I, W. F. VEBER, of Perrysburg, in the county of' Wood, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gate-Posts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and coinplete description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making e. part of' this specification, in which* Figure 1 is a side view of the gate and post.

Figure 2 is an end view of the same.

The other figures. are detached sections, to which reference will be had.

Likeletters of reference refer to like parts in the views.

This post is made in two sections, A B, lig. 2, A being the Vluppersectio'n,to`wliich the gate C is hung, and B the lower section, inserted in the ground, the two being connected to each other byl a dowel-pin, D, Figure 3, inserted in a corresponding hole in the upper section A.' .-E, iig. 3, is a pair of disks or plates, secured to the ends of the sections, and upon which the upper section turns, aisfwill hereafter bevshown. The upper plate is provided with arange, which, when the' two are together, 'encloses the edge of the lower plate, :1s-shown in Figure 5, thereby excluding rain, snow, and .dirt from between them, so that they'will not rust, be dryand clean, and thereby work freely.

It'vs'ill be observed that the dowel-pin referred to is bentin the form '0f a hook, which, on being introduced into the hole or socket, in .the upper section of"` the post, (a. no.teb,a, Figurerl, cut in the side of the hole for the admission of the hook,) will project over the edges ofthe hole on the inside-of` the plate, as shown in iig. 5, and thereby prevent the upper section of the post from displacement, and at the same time all-ow it to be turned around for the purpose of opening` the gate C. The gate, it will be seen, is hung to one side of the post, on-'a roller, Gr, whicli,iu order to open it, is'pushed back until -the roller reaches the middle of the gate, which is then swung around in line with the' carriage-way.

What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is The plates E and pin D, as arranged, in combination with the posts `A B, for the purpose and in the manner substantially as set forth.
