Description

No. 751,828. PATENTED FEB. 9, 1904.
J. A. BEURY.
RADIATOR SUPPORT.
- APPLICATION FILED DEC. '1, 1903.
N0 MODEL.-
W; h max) UNITED STATES Patented February 9, 1904.
JULIA A. BEURY, OF BEURY, EST VIRGINIA.
RADIATOR-SUPPORT- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 751,828, dated February 9, 1904.
Application filed December 7, 1903. Serial No. 184,096. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIA A. BEURY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beury, in the county of Fayette and State of WVest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Radiator-Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in supports for steam and hot-water radiators.
In radiators as at present constructed the circulating-pipes are secured to a permanent or fixed base resting imlnovably upon the fioor, and hence the carpet or other floor-covering has to be cut and fitted around the base.
The object of my invention is to provide an auxiliary base adapted to be secured to the base-board of the room and provided with removable legs which may be taken off and replaced successively as the carpet or other floor-covering is put in place under the radiator; and with these ends in view my invention consists of a base composed, preferably, of castiron made in any ornamental design and adapted to constitute an auxiliary base or support for the radiator and having a right-angled or vertical wing with screw-holes therein adapted to lie and to be secured against the base-board of the apartment and provided also with two or more recesses or pockets extended entirely across the base and supplied with supporting-legs fitted therein, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order that those skilled in the art may know how to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the same, referring by letters to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a front elevation of a base or support embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is an end view thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in both figures of the drawings.
A is the horizontal and B the vertical plate or surface of the device. Underneath the horizontal portion A are formed two or more recesses or pockets C, extending entirely across the same and adapted to receive the horizontal arm attached to and forming part of the supporting-legs D, as clearly shown in the drawings. The vertical portion B is provided with any suitable number of screw-holes a, through which screws 6 pass to enter the baseboard of the apartment.
The radiator, which is not shown, is mounted or rests upon the support A B, and when it is desired to lay down or remove the floor carpet or other covering the legs D are removed one at a time and again replaced in an obvious manner without materially affecting the supporting quality of the support, and, if necessary, all of the legs D may be temporarily removed, the screws 6 serving to support the device in place until the legs D have been duly returned to their proper places.
I am of course aware that heating-stoves and the like have been furnished with removable legs secured within suitable sockets and do not, therefore, wish to be understood as laying claim to any such feature of construction, my invention lying in the idea of the support as such for a radiator having not only removable supporting-legs, but also provided with a vertical member or portion lying against and secured to the base-board of the apartment.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a radiatorsupport consisting of the platform or horizontal portion A provided with leg recesses or pockets C, legs D, provided with arms adapted to enter the pockets or recesses C, and the vertical portion B provided with screw-holes a and adapted to be secured in position against the base-board by screws 6, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JULIA A. *BEURY.
