PATENT OEEIcE.
ANDREW J. SORENSON, OF CHICAGO HEIGHTS, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE BALD'WIN COMPANY, OF HAMILTON COUNTY, OHIO.
PIANO-PEDAL GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 751,697, dated February 9, 1904.
Application filed November 9, 1903. Serial No. 180,302. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW J. SoRENsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago Heights, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pianoforte-Pedal Guards, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to prevent the destruction of the delicate mechanism of the piano by mice, which find ready ingress into the instrument through the openings under the pedals. I attain this object by placing a box-like guard over the pedal action, which prevents the entrance of mice into the piano.
My invention is simple in construction, is easily applied, and does not in any way interfere with the proper action of the pedals.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved pedalguard. Fig. 2 shows the same in position in the bottom of the piano.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My improved piano-pedal guard is made of thin sheet metal stamped from one piece, and consists of the plate 1 with three sides 2, bent at right angles to the face of the plate 1, which forms a box-like guard open at one side, as
shown. At the outer edge of the three sides 2 are the flanges 3, by means of which the guard is held in position by screws or other means, the holes 4. being provided for that purpose. Extending in from the open side of the guard are two slots 5, the same being openings for the pedal-props 7. The opening 6 is provided for the third or middle pedal-rod when three pedals are used.
In case my guard is used in pianos with only two pedals the hole 6 may be closed by the disk 7 attached to the face of the guard by the rivet 8.
My improved pedal-guard is adapted to be placed on the bottom board of the piano over the rear portion of the pedals, with the open side in contact with the bottom rail., It covers the same, and while it effectually guards the piano against the entrance of mice it allows perfect freedom in the use of the pedals.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A metal pedal-guard for pianofortes made in one piece consisting of a plate having three side pieces bent at right angles to the face of the same, thus forming a box with one side open; the outer edge of said sides being provided with flanges having holes as described, said plate being also provided with two slots extending into the same from the open side and a circular opening between and to the rear of said slots, substantially as described.
2. A metal pedal-guard for pianofortes made in one piece consisting of a plate having three side pieces bent at right angles to the face of the same, thus forming a box with one side open; the outer edge of said sides being provided with flanges having holes as described, said plate being also provided with two slots extending into the same from the open side, and a circular opening between and to the rear of said slots and means for closing said circular opening, substantially as described.
