Be it known that I, JONATHAN R. HAMILTON, M.D., of thetown of Portland, in the county of Multnomah, State of Oregon, have invented a. new and useful Device `for the Treatment of Diseased Cervix, and the following is a full,'clear, and exact description .of the sanie, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- -f Figure 1 represents a side view of the device, cup, and stem, with spring-holder.`

The object of my invention is to furnish a means by which suitable remedies can ,be applied to diseased cervia: etten'. A

, My inventioni consists .in the use of a. cup, so constructed as to be automatically adapted to the parts where local remedies are necessary, in which to place lint or any other suitable substance, saturated with a Solution of Meren soZ., Acid m'zrz'cum,f or any other remedyjhe physician would deem indicated, can, by the use of this device, be applied and kept in contact with the diseased tissues, without injury to the surrounding healthy 'integuments To enable others to make and use my invention, I will describe it more fully, referring to the drawings and to the letters marked thereon. Y

The cup A may be made of any suitable material and size, accordingxt'o the condition of the parts to which it is to be applied, the remedial substance` being prepared and placed in the cavity a of the cup, -which-isstuckinto the socket b of the stem B, by which it can be placed on to the cervix merz'. If the parts are not too sensitive the cup A can be gently pressedbver the cervix, and the' air exhausted therefrom by pressure upon its apex, c, and if the patient keeps qniet'and in a reclined position, th'e inconvenience of wearing the socket-stem B any considerable time may thus be avoided. When it is found that the cup A, with its contents, cannot be made to retain its place on the cervix without the aid of external support, the socket-stem B ils provided at its lower epd Withfasocket, d, and screw-nut e, by which a spring-strap, D, is s'o attached that by the'use of straps or stays connected with the eyes ff-.in the ends of the spring D, the stem B can be used as a supporter to hold the remedies to the affected part, so that the patient can walk or move about with very slight incon-v venience, and nordanger of the surrounding intoguments being cauterized or in any way injured by the remedies which areA applied to the cervix. y p

The device and means above described have been practically and thoroughly tested in the worst cases of diseased cervia: eaten', and have been found to be all that can be desired in the treatment of those local diseases on parts so diilicult to be practically reached by-local means.
