THOMAS BEECHER, NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE HALF TO GEORGE ROTMAN, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
LAP RING TRACE LOOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 747,034, dated December 5, 1903- Application filed August 1'7, 1903. Serial No. 169,714. (No model.)
To all, whom it may concern: 1 Be it known that I, THOMAS BEEOHER, of
New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lap-Ring Trace- Iloops; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a top or plan view of a lap-ring traceloop constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, an edge View of the same, showing one member raised in broken lines; Fig. 3, a longitudinal sectional view; Fig. 4, a perspective view of the hook member detached with the parts in position in which they are cast preparatory to assembling; Fig. 5, a detached plan view of the swivel memher.
This invention relates to an improvement in lapring trace-loops and while adapted for attachment to the end of a trace for connection with a whiffletree. is equally applicable for various other purposes, the object of the invention being a simple arrangement of parts which permits the ring to be readily opened, but which is sufficiently strong to stand any strain imposed upon it; and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claims.
As herein shown, the device consists of a body A, formed with rearwardly-extending arms B C, which may be connected by a bolt (not shown) or bya fixed cross-bar, to which a strap or other device may be connected. The bodyAhas an outwardly-extending hook D, one face of which is flattened. Projecting upward from the top of the body A are lugs E, While from the lower side of the body A an arm F extends, the end of the arm being formed with a shoulder G. The lugs and arm are preferably cast integral with the body and in the position shown in Fig. l.
The swivel memberH of the loop corresponds in form to the hook portion D and so as to rest upon the flattened face thereof. The inner end I is round and terminates in a head J. The parts are assembled by placing the member H upon thehook D and so that the end I rests in the arm E, which is then turned over the end I, the end of the arm F passing between the lugs E, which are turned down over it just .below the shoulder G, thus swivelly connecting the members H, which completes the loop. To couple the loop with a device, the member H is raised so as to open the loop, after which it is again depressed so as to close the loop, the strain under tension coming upon both members, and owing to the V rigid connection of the member H with the body a very strong loop is produced.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- l. A lap-ring trace-loop comprising a body and a swivel member, the body having a hook projecting outward therefrom and an integral arm, the swivel member overlapping the hook member and having an integral inwardly-extending end around which the arm is passed whereby the swivel member is connected with the body, substantially as described.
2. A lap-ringtrace-loop comprising a body and a swivel member, the body havinga hook projecting outward therefrom, an arm ex tending from one side of the body and lugs projecting from the opposite sides, the swivel member overlapping the said hook and having an inwardly-extending end, the said arm passing around said end and between said lugs, the lugs turned down upon the end of said arm whereby the swivel member is connected with the body, substantially as described.
3. A lap-ring trace-loop comprising a body and a swivel member, the body having a hook projecting outward therefrom, an arm ex tending from one side of the body and lugs projecting from the opposite side, the swivel member overlapping said hook and having In testimony whereof I have signed this an inwardly-extending end and a shoulder at specification in the presence of two subscribthe outer end thereof, the arm passing around ing witnesses.
said end and between said lugs which are THOMAS BEEOI-IER. turned down over it whereby the swivel niem- Witnesses:
her is connected with the body, substantially FREDERIC C. EARLE,
as described. 1 J. H. SHUMNAL.
