WILLIAM E. ADAMS, OF YORK, N. Y.
INDICATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 746,433, dated December 8, 1903.
Application led March 20, 1903. Serial No. 148,804. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known vthat I, WILLIAM E. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new Vand useful Improvements in Indicators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in indicators for use in connection with dumb-waiters, elevators, and similar devices; and its object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character by means of which the position of the device within its shaft may be accurately indicated upon a suitablyfarranged dial.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved indicator. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a front elevation with the dial and the hand removed. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the holding-bracket of the indicator. Y Fig. 5 i's a section showing the manner of connecting a pulley to the bracket.
Referringto the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is a base-plate adapted to be secured to the wall of the shaft of the dumbwaiter or elevator and having arms 2 and 3 extending therefrom and having threaded apertures 4. Each arm receives a screw 5, having a smooth cylindrical portion 6 and a head 7. The cylindrical portion of the screw in arm 2 forms a bearing for a pulley 8, a washer 9, and asmall gear l0. This gear and washer are joined to the pulley by means of a pin 11, which is threaded and extends through apertures formed within the connected portions.
The screw 5 within arm 3 serves to clamp a yoke l2 in position, and the cylindrical portion of said screw forms a bearing vfor a large gear 13, a washer 14, and one end of an index 15. These three parts are connected by means of a pin 16, similar to the pin 11, before referred to, and a dial 17 is interposed between said index and washer 14. and is fastened at opposite sides to the stationary yoke 12.
The dial 17 is provided adjacent to its periphery with numerals arranged consecutively and indicating the vnumber of floors within the building inwhich the indicator is located. l
The dumb-waiter or elevatoris adapted to be raised or lowered in the ordinary manner,
and the cable 18, connected thereto, will pensive in construction and is both compact and durable.
In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of the invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such changes as fairly fall within the scope of the invention.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. The combination with a base-plate having integral internally-threaded arms thereon and a pulley connected to one ofthe arms; of a yoke upon the other arm, a gear revolubly mounted within the yoke, a gear revoluble with the pulley and meshing with the gear in the yoke, a dial secured to the yoke and an index thereon and revoluble with the gear in the yoke.
2. The combination with a base-plate having internally-threaded arms formed integral therewith; of a screw detachably arranged within one of the arms, a pulley journaled thereon, a gear journaled on the screw, a pin connecting said gear and pulley, a screw decured to said arm, a gear looselymounted upon the screw and within the yoke, the two necting the index and its gear.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM E. ADAMS.
Witnesses:
