FIGJ.
WITNESSES: INVENTOR Patented December 8, 1908.
PATENT OFFICE.
TERRY O. OARMAN, OF EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO.
HEATER FOR SWEAT-BATH CABENETS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 746,018, dated. December 8, 1903.
Application filed January 21.1908. Serial No. 139,968. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, TERRY O. CARMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Liverpool, in the county of Oolumbiana and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Heaters for Sweat-Bath Cabinets, of which improvement the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object the provision of an electric heater and chair for use in connection with sweat-bath cabinets.
The invention is of portable character, and is adapted for use in connection with any of the well-known forms of cabinets or inclosures for confining the heated air about the body of the patient therein. Furthermore, the device is of such character that it may be attached to an ordinary lamp-socket, the heat derived from the current being under the control of the patient, so that it may be applied to one or both sides of the patient, as the case may require.
In the accompanying drawings 1 have by various views illustrated my improved heater and chair and diagrammatically the electric circuits and connections thereof, in which drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of the chair, showing the heater in connection therewith. Fig. 2 is a side View of the same. Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic view of the circuit-wires and connections of the electric heater. Fig. 4 isa plan View of the heater detached from the chair.
On further reference to said drawings for a detailed description of the views the numeral 1 designates the seat of a stool mounted upon suitable legs 2. To the under side of this stool-seat are secured the vertical hangers 3, to which are attached the horizontally-disposed frames 4, which frames are provided upon opposite sides with insulator-knobs 5. These insulator-knobs have attached thereto the heat-generating coils 6, said coils being arranged in divided circuit and connected at one end to a wire 6", leading to a socket-plug 7, while the opposite ends of said coils are connected to suitable switches 8,conveniently arranged at each-side of the stool-top, said switches being provided with contact members 9, which connect with the other wire, 10, leading to the socket-plug.
The chair portion proper is adjustable vertically to suit the patient, being composed of a seat 11, having a back 12 thereon, which chair-bottom is provided with a vertical screw 13 to engage in a nut carried by the stool-top.
In practice the plug is inserted in a lampsocket and a suitable cabinet 14 provided to inclose the body of the patient sitting upon the chair, it being understood that the head of the patient protrudes through an opening in the top of the cabinet or iuclosure. The electric current being under the control of the patient within the cabinet may by means of the divided circuit and switches be turned on at one or both sides of the chair.
A heating device of this character has the advantage of being odorless, may be employed wherever the electric current can be supplied, and gives off a perfectly dry heat, which is found to be more beneficial than that supplied by lamps or other heating devices.
Having thus fully shown and described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a heating apparatus for sweat-bath cabinets, an electric heater com prising a substantially cubular frame, having horizontallydisposed bars, electric heati rig-coils supported upon the said bars in divided circuit, a plugterminalforconnectingthecoils withasocket, means in said divided circuit for independently controlling either of said coils, and means for removably supporting the heater in a cabinet.
2. In a heating apparatus for sweat-bath cabinets,an electric heatercomprisingacubular frame, having horizontal bars, a series of electric heating-coils arranged in sets and supported upon the said bars, means connecting said coils with a socket, means for independently controlling the coil sets, and means for removably supporting the heater in a cabinet.
3. in a heating apparatus for sweat-bath cabinets, an electric heater comprising a substantially cubular frame provided with hori- In testimony whereof I have hereunto zental bars, a series of electric heating-coils signed my name in the presence of two sub- 10 insulatedly supported and arranged in sets scribing Witnesses. upon the said bars, 2t plug-terminal for connecting the coils with a socket, and switches for controlling the coilsindependently of each In presence ofother, said heater being removahly supported M. J. MOGARRY, in the cabinet, substantially as described. ANNA RICH.
